The Shire of Gnowangerup is a local government area in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, about north of Albany and about southeast of the capital, Perth. The Shire covers an area of , and its seat of government is the town of Gnowangerup. History Gnowangerup was initially gazetted as the Gnowangerup Road District on 26 January 1912, taking in territory that had been part of the Broomehill and Tambellup road districts. On 23 June 1961, it became a shire following the passage of the ''Local Government Act 1960'', which reformed all remaining road districts into shires. On 4 June 1982, the eastern half of the Gnowangerup shire was excised to form the Shire of Jerramungup. Shire Of Capel
The Shire of Capel is a local government area in the South West region of Western Australia, taking in the land between the cities of Bunbury and Busselton about south of the state capital, Perth. The Shire covers an area of , and its seat of government is the town of Capel. The Shire of Capel has 29 km of beach frontage onto Geographe Bay including access at Forrest Beach, Peppermint Grove Beach, Minninup Beach and Dalyellup Beach. The eight kilometer stretch of Stirling Beach (commencing at the Capel River, north to the Minninup Beach access at Rich Road) has no public access points since all the adjacent land is privately owned. The City of Busselton is a local government area in the South West region of Western Australia, approximately south of Perth, the state capital. The city covers an area of and had a population of 40,640 as at the 2021 Census. It contains two large towns, Busselton and Dunsborough, and a number of smaller towns. The city office is located on Southern Drive, Busselton. History The City of Busselton was established as the Busselton Road District on 11 May 1951 with the amalgamation of the Municipality of Busselton, governing the area of Busselton bounded by West Street and Ford Road, and the Sussex Road District, governing the remaining area. Bunbury, Western Australia
Bunbury () is a coastal city in the Australian state of Western Australia, approximately south of the state capital, Perth. It is the state's third most populous city after Perth and Mandurah, with a population of approximately 75,000. Located at the south of the Leschenault Estuary, Bunbury was established in 1836 on the orders of Governor James Stirling (Royal Navy officer), James Stirling, and named in honour of its founder, Lieutenant (at the time) Henry William St Pierre Bunbury, Henry Bunbury. Brookton, Western Australia
Brookton is a town in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, from the state capital, Perth via the Brookton Highway where it crosses the Great Southern Highway. The town is on the Great Southern railway line. It is within, and is the seat of government for, the Shire of Brookton. At the 2016 census, Brookton had a population of 975. History The first settler and founder of the Brookton district, John Seabrook (1818–1891), moved to the area in 1846 soon after marrying, and named his property "Brookton House". He remained the only European in the area, aside from itinerant sandalwood cutters, until his stepson, Robinson, took up adjacent land in 1864. During the 1860s and 1870s, more settlers moved into the area, and took on sandalwood cuttingit sold for as well as wheat and sheep farming. Boyup Brook, Western Australia
Boyup Brook is a town in the south-west of Western Australia, south-southeast of Perth and northeast of Bridgetown. The town lies on Kaniyang land within the Noongar nation. The name ''Boyup'' is derived from the name of a nearby pool called ''Booyup'', an Aboriginal term meaning (that is, large granite outcrops common in the area) or (from burning the many surrounding grass trees). The town's economy is primarily agricultural. It is a Cooperative Bulk Handling receival site. History About 1839, John Hassell brought sheep and cattle from the eastern states of Australia via Albany, and acquired a lease of land along what would later become Scotts Brook, south of the current town site. The Shire of Plantagenet is a local government area in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, managed from the town of Mount Barker, south of Perth and north of Albany. The shire covers an area of and includes the communities of Narrikup, Rocky Gully, Kendenup and Porongurup.
