Chemirani Ensemble
The Chemirani ensemble is a notable Persian classical music ensemble. The group is made of Chemirani family: *Bijan Chemirani *Djamchid Chemirani *Keyvan Chemirani *Maryam Chemirani In 1988, the Chemirani Trio (Bijan, Keyvan and Jamshid) was born and their special chemistry and peerless virtuosity has popularised the zarb. Djamchid Chemirani was born in Tehran in 1942. he has studied the zarb, also called the tombak, since the age of eight. His teacher was Hossein Tehrani. Under Tehrani's demanding tutelage, Chemirani made rapid progress and soon became a brilliant player. Since his arrival in Paris in 1961 he has taught at the ''Centre d'Etudes de Musique Orientale'' in the ''Paris Sorbonne Institut de Musicologie''. Kayhan Kalhor
Kayhan Kalhor (, born on 24 November 1964) is an Iran, Iranian Kurds, Kurdish kamancheh and setar player, and a vocal composer. He has received three Grammy Award for Best Traditional World Music Album nominations. Kalhor has also earned two nominations and won one Grammy Award for Best Global Music Album as a member of the Silk Road Ensemble. Early life and education Kayhan Kalhor was born in Kermanshah to a Kurdish family. He began studying music at the age of seven. By the age of thirteen, he was playing in the National Orchestra of Radio and Television of Iran. Continuing his music studies under the supervision of various teachers, he studied in the Iranian radif (music), radif tradition and also travelled to study in the northern part of Khorasan province, where music traditions have Kurdish and Turkish influences as well as Persian. Sa'id Hormozi
Ostad Sa'id Hormozi () (1898–1976) was an Iranian musician who is remembered for his efforts to "promote authentic Iranian music" and pass it to modern musicians. He was born in one of the old neighborhoods of Tehran called Sangalaj. He was a prominent radif master and virtuoso tar and setar player. He was a student of Darvish Khan (student of Mirza Hossein-Qoli, "one of the pioneers of Iranian music"), who awarded Hormozi with the medal of the "Golden Hatchet". That prize was given only to Khan's best students. He also studied musical ''color'' and ''rhythm'' with Haj Ali Akbar Khan Shahnaz (son of that same Mirza Hossein-Qoli). Parvaz Homay
Parvaz Homay (; born 9 February 1980) is an Iranian composer, lyricist, vocalist, and performer specializing in Persian classical-style music. Also known by his birth name Saeid Jafarzadeh Ahmadsargurabi (), he is the founder and leader of the Mastan Ensemble. Biography Homay was born in Gilan, a province located in the northwest portion of Iran, bordering the Caspian Sea. From an early age, Homay showed an interest in the arts. Ma'soumeh Dadehbala (; April 10, 1942 – January 20, 1990), known professionally as Hayedeh (, ), was an Iranian singer with a contralto vocal range. Known for her wide range of voice, her career spanned over two decades, and she has been widely described as one of the most popular and influential musicians of Iran. Shusha Guppy
Shushā Guppy (; née Shamsi Assār (; 24 December 1935 – 21 March 2008) was a writer, editor and a singer of Persian and Western folk songs. She lived in London from the early 1960s, until her death in 2008. Early life Her father, Sayyed Mohammad-Kāzem Assār, was a Shia theologian and Professor of Philosophy at University of Tehran. At age 16 in 1951, Shusha was sent to Paris, where she studied French Literature and philosophy at Sorbonne, and also trained as an opera singer. In Paris she encountered artists, writers and poets such as Louis Aragon, José Bergamín, Jean-Paul Sartre and Albert Camus. She was encouraged by Jacques Prévert to record an album of Persian folk songs. She married British writer, explorer, and art collector Nicholas Guppy in 1961. Mohammad Mehdi Goorangi
Mohammad Mehdi Goorangi (; born 23 June 1975 in Shiraz, Iran) is an Iranian peoples, Iranian musician and composer. Akbar Golpayegani
Akbar Golpayegani (; 30 January 1934 – 4 November 2023), also known as Golpa (), was an Iranian traditional singer. Life and career Born in Tehran, Golpayegani started his musical training in 1951. At 14 he had his first experience in a choir, and at 15 he became a member of the Nizam School Music Association. Golpayegani had his breakout in 1956, when he began participating in the National Iranian Radio musical show ''Radio Golha'', on which he collaborated until 1979. He was the first Iranian singer to perform abroad, taking part in a 1956 international festival promoted by Unesco. In 1969, his performance of "Poem of Saadi" was included in the soundtrack of Pier Paolo Pasolini's film ''Medea''. In 1984, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Tehran. Reza Ghassemi
Reza Ghassemi (; born 1949) is an Iranian novelist and musician. Life and career Ghassemi was born in 1949 in the city of Isfahan, Iran. In addition to writing, he plays Iranian classical music and the Persian Lute, known as the Setar. He has composed songs for the Iranian maestro Shahram Nazeri and performed with various Iranian vocalists, such as Mohammad Reza Shajarian and Sepideh Raissadat. His best known composition is the last track on the classical Iranian album '' Gol-e Sadbarg'', released in 1984.
