Hopkins, Michigan
Hopkins, formerly Hopkins Station, is a village within Hopkins Township in Allegan County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 615 at the 2020 census. History John Hoffmaster settled here in 1854. On May 20, 1854, the Hopkins post office was opened with Erastus Congdon as its first postmaster. The Hopkins Station post office opened on March 28, 1870, with postmaster Henry F. Guyot. Hopkins Station was the name of the railroad depot opened in 1874. Hoffmaster became the first depot master and platted the village. On May 31, 1904, the Hopkins post office was closed. On June 6, 1906, the Hopkins Station post office was shortened to just Hopkins. Hopkins was incorporated as a village in 1920. On January 31, 1929, Claude B. Hoffmaster became postmaster. Central Lake is a village in Antrim County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 960 at the 2020 census. The village is located within Central Lake Township. Central Lake is situated on a lake which is in the center of a chain of lakes and rivers in the county, hence the name. History Central Lake was given a post office in 1869. James M. Wadsworth started a store here in 1872. The village was platted in 1883. The Chicago and Western Railroad put a depot in Central Lake in 1892. It was incorporated as a village in 1895. Alba is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located in Antrim County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 287 at the 2020 census. Located just north of Mancelona along U.S. Route 131, Alba is divided between Star Township on the east and Chestonia Township on the west. History Alba was first settled as a flag station named Cascade along the Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad in 1876. At the time, it was part of Forest Home Township, Michigan. A post office opened on December 4, 1877, and the village was platted the next year. The name was changed to Alba in 1884 after local entertainer Alba Haywood. Wayland is a city in Allegan County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 4,435 at the 2020 census. The city is located at the northwest corner of Wayland Township, but is politically independent. The city has also incorporated a portion of land in the south of adjacent Leighton Township. Saugatuck, Michigan
Saugatuck ( ) is a city in Allegan County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 865 at the 2020 census. The city is within Saugatuck Township, but is administratively autonomous. Originally a lumber town and port, Saugatuck, along with the adjacent city of Douglas, became a noted art colony and tourist destination in the Arts and Crafts movement of the late 19th century. In the early 20th century, Saugatuck was home to the famous Big Pavilion, a large dance hall that attracted bands and visitors from across the Midwest. The building was a popular destination on Lake Michigan from its construction in 1909 until it burned down on May 6, 1960. Renaissance High School (Michigan)
Renaissance High School is a public, magnet high school in the city of Detroit, Michigan. Founded in 1978 on the former site of Catholic Central High School, Renaissance graduated its first senior class in 1981. In 2005, a new building was dedicated at the site of the former Sinai Hospital. Renaissance is one of four magnet high schools in the Detroit Public Schools district; (the others being Cass Technical High School, Detroit School of Arts, and Communication & Media Arts High School). Entrance is based on test scores and middle school grades. Academics Students at Renaissance must take seven courses a semester and complete 200 community service hours in order to graduate. Although students take only six courses a day, their schedules rotate to accomplish the seven course requirement.
