This is a list of the world's record-breaking top speeds achieved by street-legal production cars (as opposed to concept cars or modified cars). For the purposes of this list eligible cars are defined in the below list of rules. This list uses a different definition to the List of automotive superlatives. The variation is because the term production car is otherwise undefined. List rules Because of the inconsistencies with the various definitions of production cars, dubious claims by manufacturers and self-interest groups, and inconsistent or changing application of the definitions this list has a defined set of requirements. Street-legal, road-legal, or road-going, refers to a vehicle such as a car, motorcycle, or light truck that is equipped and licensed for use on public roads, being therefore Roadworthiness, roadworthy. This will require specific configurations of lighting, signal lights, and safety equipment. Some specialty vehicles that will not be operated on roads, therefore, do not need all the features of a street-legal vehicle; examples are a vehicle used only off-road (such as a sandrail) that is Trailer (vehicle), trailered to its off-road operating area, and a Auto racing, racing car that is used only on closed race tracks and therefore does not need all the features of a street-legal vehicle. The Lamborghini Miura is a sports car produced by Italian automaker Lamborghini between 1966 and 1973. Ehra-Lessien is a municipality in the district of Gifhorn, in Lower Saxony, Germany. The Municipality Ehra-Lessien includes the villages of Ehra and Lessien. Volkswagen Group test track Volkswagen Group owns a test track facility in Ehra-Lessien, some north of its Wolfsburg factory. The facility was built during the Cold War. Dauer 962 Le Mans
The Dauer 962 Le Mans is a sports car based on the Porsche 962 Group C racing car. Built by German Jochen Dauer's Dauer Racing, a racing version of this car went on to win the 1994 24 Hours of Le Mans with the support of Porsche in LMGT1 group. The first road car debuted at the 1993 Frankfurt Auto Show. In total 13 cars were made. Changes to meet road regulations Dauer Racing (now Dauer Sportwagen) produced the 962 Le Mans from stripped down Porsche 962 bodies for modification. Components of the bodywork were replaced with slightly revised carbon fiber and kevlar panels. The under tray was replaced with a flat version for better stability at high speeds. The Nardò Ring, originally known as Pista di prova di Nardò della Fiat (Fiat's Nardò test track) when it was built in 1975, is a high speed test track located at more than north-west of the town of Nardò, Italy, in the southern region of Apulia, in the Province of Lecce. Ruf BTR
The Ruf BTR (Gruppe B Turbo RUF) is a sports car built by German automobile manufacturer Ruf Automobile. The BTR began production in 1983 and was based on the Porsche 911 (classic), Porsche 911 (produced from 1978–1989) available in a narrow 911 or optional wide body configuration akin to the Porsche 911 (930), 930 Turbo (the drag difference causing more than difference in top speed).
