This is a list of drive-in theaters. A drive-in theater is a form of movie theater, cinema structure consisting of a large outdoor Projection screen, movie screen, a projection booth, a concession stand, and a large parking lot, parking area for automobiles. Within this enclosed area, customers can view films from their cars. This list includes active and defunct drive-in theaters. Beverly Drive-In Theatre
Beverly Drive-In Theatre opened May 29, 1948, as a cinema structure in Forrest County, Mississippi. It was operated continuously by the original owners until 1987, then reopened in 2001 under new management. Following substantial damage to the infrastructure by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the Beverly Drive-In never recovered. In 2008, the drive-in was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Hull's Drive In
Hull's Drive In is a 319-space drive-in theatre in Lexington, Virginia, one of the seven drive-in theatres still currently operating in Virginia. It is one of only two non-profit drive-in theaters in the United States, the other being Warner's in nearby Franklin, West Virginia. It shows current, family-friendly movies every weekend (Friday-Sunday) between March and October. History The theater opened on August 6, 1950, as the Lee Drive-In. Its owner was Mr. Waddey C. Watkins of Roanoke. In August 1957, Mr. Sebert Hull of Buena Vista assumed ownership. Mr. and Mrs. Hull ran the newly renamed Hull's Drive-In for the next four decades. When Mr. Hull died before the 1998 season, Mrs. Hull sold the business to Mr. W.D. Goad, whose auto body shop is adjacent to the drive-in on Route 11, north of Lexington. The Fort Lauderdale Swap Shop is an 80 acre indoor and outdoor flea market, featuring a 14-screen drive-in theater in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. From 1989–2006 the Hanneford Family Circus performed daily (except Tuesdays) in the Swap Shop food court, entertaining the roughly 12 million people who visit each year. History On November 22, 1963, Betty and Preston Henn opened the Thunderbird Drive-in Theater. In the beginning, there was one screen (was in use as Screen 9) — and a reputation for showing adult movies, which concerned passing motorists. Initially the parking lot was divided by a fence to divide the white customers from the African American customers. After a 1966 trip to the American West Coast, Henn decided to add a flea market, allowing the region to have a collective rummage sale and encouraging the start of many small businesses in southeastern Florida. The Family Drive-In Theatre is an outdoor cinema located at 5890 Valley Pike (U.S. Route 11 in Virginia, U.S. 11) one mile south of Stephens City, Virginia, Stephens City, Virginia. The Cherry Bowl Drive-In Theatre & Diner is a historic drive-in theater with a concession stand in Honor, Michigan, on U.S. Route 31 in Michigan, US Highway 31 (US 31). It opened on July 4, 1953, and was one of eight remaining drive-in theaters in Michigan in 2024. It has a snack bar, children's play areas, putt-putt golf, beach volleyball, and a rest area for dogs. The Cherry Bowl is the only remaining drive-in theater in Northern Michigan. The Cherry Bowl's sound system uses the original vacuum tube motiograph amplifiers powering speakers at speaker posts.
