List Of Defunct CBC Radio Transmitters In Canada
This is a list of former radio transmitters across Canada that were used by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Most of the former transmitters operated on the AM dial as low-power relay transmitters (LPRT's), which were added to vast remote communities on the AM dial, initially 20 watts of power when they first went on the air during World War II and were later boosted to 40 watts. Since the 1980s, most of the CBC AM LPRT's, including medium and high-power AM transmitters have either moved to the FM dial or shut down completely in which the trend continues today. Note that only a few FM transmitters listed below had shut down as well due to various reasons. Fort Vermilion, Alberta
Fort Vermilion is a Hamlet (place), hamlet on the Peace River in northern Alberta, Canada, within Mackenzie County. Established in 1788, Fort Vermilion shares the title of oldest European settlement in Alberta with Fort Chipewyan. Ashcroft, British Columbia
Ashcroft is a village municipality that straddles the Thompson River in the Thompson Country region of south central British Columbia, Canada. East of British Columbia Highway 1, BC Highway 1 and on British Columbia Highway 97C, BC Highway 97C, the locality is by road about north of Spences Bridge and south of Cache Creek, British Columbia, Cache Creek. CBYK-FM is a Canadian radio station, which broadcasts the programming of the CBC Radio One network in Kamloops, British Columbia. The station airs at 94.1 FM in Kamloops. History The station was established in 1977 as a local rebroadcaster of Vancouver's CBU, replacing private CBC affiliate CFJC (now CKBZ-FM). CBYK switched to CBTK-FM Kelowna after regional programming for the Southern BC Interior commenced from that station in 1987. CFPR
CFPR is a Canadian radio station, airing at 860 AM in Prince Rupert, British Columbia. It is part of the CBC Radio One network. History CFPR first aired in 1936 on 580 AM, as a private CBC Radio affiliate owned by Northwest Broadcast & Service Co. It moved to 1240 AM in 1941 (see '' Canadian allocations changes under NARBA''), and became a Trans-Canada Network affiliate in 1944. The station was directly acquired by the CBC in 1953 shortly after going out of business as a private station. In 1963, the CBC was granted approval to move the station to its current frequency, which it did by 1967. In 1988, the CBC applied to convert the station to a straight rebroadcaster of CBYG-FM in Prince George. The application was denied by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). Waterways is a locality within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo in northern Alberta, Canada. It is now a neighbourhood within the Fort McMurray urban service area along the west bank of the Clearwater River, south of the river's confluence with the Athabasca River. History In 1921, Waterways became a major shipping hub when the Alberta and Great Waterways Railway reached the town, making it the northernmost point on the North American railroad grid.
