Mitiga International Airport
Mitiga International Airport (مطار معيتيقة الدولي) is an airport in Libya, located about east of Tripoli's city centre. The airport has a diverse international history and has been known by a variety of names. It was originally built in 1923 as an Italian air force base called . It became a German air base during World War II. The airbase was captured by the British 8th Army in January 1943 and transferred to the control of the US Army Air Forces, who called it Mellaha AAF until 1945, when they renamed it Wheelus Air Base for a US airman killed that year. American use continued until the 1969 Libyan coup d'état and the subsequent expiration of the lease. When the Americans left, the base was renamed Okba Ben Nafi Air Base (قاعدة عقبة بن نافع الجوية) after the Islamic general who conquered North Africa. The Karamanly House Museum (also known as the Qaramanli House Museum, the House of Karamanly and the Tripoli Historical Exhibition) is a historic house and museum located in the Old city in Tripoli, Libya. It is associated with the Karamanli dynasty. The house was built in the second half of the 18th century . After restoration in the 1990s, it became a museum. Architecture The Qaramanli house is one of the few traditional houses that have been preserved and rehabilitated in the Old city. It is characterized by its fine Islamic architectural design. It consists of two floors, with each of them having an area of 472 m2. The open air courtyard, a common element in Islamic residences, is centered around a beautiful fountain. The Radisson Blu Al Mahary Hotel Tripoli is a modern tourist hotel in Tripoli, Libya, near Grand Hotel Tripoli. Data & History It was built in 1989 and completely remodeled in 2009 to international standards as part of Radisson Hotels. It is located on the site of the earlier Italian Hotel del Mehari , built in 1935 at the same time as the nearby Hotel Casinò Uaddan. Like the Uaddan, it was designed by Italian architect Florestano Di Fausto, with the collaboration of Stefano Gatti-Casazza. Gurgi Mosque
The Gurgi Mosque ( ar, جامع قرجي) is a mosque in Tripoli, Libya. It lies in the heart of old Tripoli (the medina) as part of a complex of historic buildings. The mosque is an important tourist attraction, as is the area as a whole; nearby is the Roman Arch of Marcus Aurelius. History The mosque was commissioned by Mustafa Gurgi and built in 1834. The Great Manmade River Stadium (GMR or GMMR stadium) is a football stadium situated just a few metres away from the 11 June Stadium in the heart of Tripoli's sporting city.
