Lise Noblet
Marie-Élisabeth Noblet (24 November 1801 in Paris – September 1852 in Paris), known by her stage name of Lise Noblet, was a French ballet dancer. She débuted at the Ballet de l'Opéra de Paris in 1819 in a pas de deux with Albert, then danced the principal roles in the ballets of Pierre Gardel. She left the Opéra in 1841 on the death of her faithful companion, général Claparède. She created the title role of Fenella in the opera ''La muette de Portici'' by Daniel Auber. In ballet, a pas de deux ( French, literally "step of two") is a dance duet in which two dancers, typically a male and a female, perform ballet steps together. Albert (dancer)
François-Ferdinand Decombe (15 April 1789, Bordeaux - 18 July 1865, Fontainebleau) was a French ballet dancer and ballet master, under the stage name Albert. Albert débuted aged 14 at the Théâtre de la Gaîté, before being taken on by the Opéra de Paris in 1808, having been recommended to them by Jean-François Coulon and Auguste Vestris. Ejected by the ballet master Pierre Gardel, Albert divided his time between Paris and London, where he showed all the measure of his talent. Ousted from the Opéra in 1831 to the benefit of Jean Coralli and Filippo Taglioni, he worked in London, Naples and Marseille. From 1838 to 1840 Albert was ballet master to the Brussels Théâtre de la Monnaie, where he made the talents of Arthur Saint-Léon known to the public. Pierre Gardel
Pierre-Gabriel Gardel (4 February 1758, in Nancy, France – 18 October 1840, in Paris) was a French ballet dancer, ballet master, violinist, and composer., 2007. He was the younger brother of Maximilien Gardel, seventeen years his senior. In 1795 he married the dancer Marie Miller, whom he showcased in many of his works. Career Entering the school of the Opéra de Paris (Paris Opera) in 1772, he began his studies under his brother's watch. He became a soloist in 1780, but had to give up his performing career for health reasons, paired with the rising jealousy of his contemporary Auguste Vestris, who was a natural technician. Upon his brother Maximillien's death in 1787, Pierre took over as the Opera's ballet master. Assisted by Louis Milon, Gardel went on to head the Ballet de l'Opéra de Paris for 40 years, adapting to the turmoil of the French Revolution and the reign of Napoleon. ''La muette de Portici'' (''The Mute Girl of Portici'', or ''The Dumb Girl of Portici''), also called ''Masaniello'' () in some versions, is an opera in five acts by Daniel Auber, with a libretto by Germain Delavigne, revised by Eugène Scribe. The work has an important place in music history as the earliest French grand opera. It is also known for its alleged role in the Belgian Revolution of 1830. Background The opera was first given at the Salle Le Peletier of the Paris Opéra on 29 February 1828. The role of Masaniello was taken by the famous tenor Adolphe Nourrit and Princess Elvire was sung by Laure Cinti-Damoreau. Daniel Auber
Daniel-François-Esprit Auber (; 29 January 178212 May 1871) was a French composer and director of the Paris Conservatoire. Born into an artistic family, Auber was at first an amateur composer before he took up writing operas professionally when the family's fortunes failed in 1820. He soon established a professional partnership with the librettist Eugène Scribe that lasted for 41 years and produced 39 operas, most of them commercial and critical successes. He is mostly associated with opéra-comique and composed 35 works in that genre. With Scribe he wrote the first French grand opera, ''La Muette de Portici'' (The Dumb Woman of Portici) in 1828, which paved the way for the large-scale works of Giacomo Meyerbeer. Alexis Dupont (179629 May 1874) was a French operatic tenor who sang at the Opéra-Comique from 1821 to 1823 and the Paris Opera from 1826 to 1841.Kutsch & Riemens 2003, p. 1256; Schulman 1992. Concerning the date of his retirement from the Paris Opera, Kutsch & Riemens and Schulman say Dupont sang there until 1840, after which he retired from further opera performances. However, Lajarte 1878p. 148 gives the year 1841 for Dupont's appearances in ''Don Juan''.
