Lisa Ashton
Lisa Ashton (born 27 August 1970) is an English professional darts player who competes in World Darts Federation (WDF) and Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. Nicknamed "The Lancashire Rose", Ashton formerly competed in British Darts Organisation (BDO) events. She is a four-time BDO Women's World Champion. She held a PDC Tour Card from 2020–2021, having become the first woman to win a tour card at Q-School. She has won over 100 titles in women's darts competitions. Career Ashton reached the quarter-finals of the 2007 Women's World Masters, beating 1996 finalist Heike Jenkins (Ernst) in the last 16 before losing to Rilana Erades. The next year, she reached the semi-finals, beating Anne Kirk in the last 16 and then beat Australia's Cathy Shaw, before losing to eventual winner Francis Hoenselaar. The British Open is one of the longest-running darts events, having started just a few months after the first ever Winmau World Masters. The tournament used to be televised by the BBC from its inception, but it ceased to cover the event after 1983. ITV took over from 1984-1988, then BSB Sports Channel/Sky Sports covered from 1990-1992 It was often held between Christmas and New Year - the 1975 Championship was actually played in late 1974. The tradition was maintained until near the millennium, when the organisers moved the tournament back to September/October. The 2024 World Seniors Darts Matchplay will be the third World Seniors Darts Matchplay organised by the World Seniors Darts Tour and will be held at the York Barbican in York, England, between 4–5 October 2024. Leonard Gates is the defending champion after defeating Jim McEwan 9–6 in the 2023 final. The 2022 World Seniors Darts Matchplay (known for sponsorship reasons as the 2022 JENNINGSbet World Seniors Darts Matchplay) was the first World Seniors Darts Matchplay organised by the World Seniors Darts Tour and was held at the Bonus Arena in Kingston upon Hull between 1–3 July 2022. Robert Thornton won his second WSDT title, by defeating Phil Taylor 12–10 in the final, after Taylor missed two match darts to win the title.
