Lini De Vries
Lini M. De Vries (July 25, 1905—March 27, 1982), born Lena Moerkerk in Prospect Park, New Jersey, was a Dutch–American author, public health nurse, and teacher. She worked as chief of American Hospital Number 3 on the Madrid-Valencia Road during the Spanish Civil War and later organized health clinics in New Mexico, California, and Puerto Rico. She moved to Mexico in 1949 after her membership in the Communist Party was exposed. In Mexico, De Vries taught medicine and public health to indigenous villagers in the Papaloapan River Basin in Oaxaca; taught anthropology and public health at the University of Veracruz; was a founder of CIDOC, a religious, educational and cultural school; and helped found Cemanahuac, an educational community in Cuernavaca, Mexico. The Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos (Autonomous University of the State of Morelos, UAEM) is a university in Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico. It is the largest institution of higher education in Morelos, with facilities statewide. History In 1938, the ''Instituto de Educación Superior'' (Higher Education Institute) was established, offering bachillerato-level courses. Louis Clyde Stoumen
Louis Clyde Stoumen (July 15, 1917 – September 20, 1991), known as Lou Stoumen, was an American photographer, film director and producer. He won two Academy Awards; the first in 1957 for Best Documentary Short Subject (''The True Story of the Civil War''), and the second in 1963 for Best Documentary Feature ('' Black Fox: The Rise and Fall of Adolf Hitler''). Stoumen was born in Springtown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and died in Sebastopol, California. After graduating from Lehigh University in 1939, he worked as a freelance journalist and photographer in New York. Many of the photographs of Times Square he made were published in the 1985 book ''Times Square: 45 Years of Photographs''. Stoumen taught at UCLA Film School. He spoke of his innovation in ''The True Story of the Civil War''. He invented a track for the camera to move back and forth over historic photos and paintings. Cuernavaca (; nci-IPA, Cuauhnāhuac, kʷawˈnaːwak "near the woods", ) is the capital and largest city of the state of Morelos in Mexico. The city is located around a 90-minute drive south of Mexico City using the Federal Highway 95D. The name ''Cuernavaca'' is a euphonism derived from the Nahuatl toponym and means 'surrounded by or close to trees'. The Centro Intercultural de Documentación (CIDOC) was founded by Ivan Illich in 1965 as a higher education campus for development workers and missionaries. It was located in Cuernavaca (Mexico), at the Rancho Tetela. Early history In Celebration of Awareness: A Call for Institutional Revolution, Illich writes that the intention of the school was to counteract a Papal command of 1960 which enjoined US and Canadian religious superiors to send 10% of their priests and nuns to South America. Illich was convinced that this project would do more harm than good.
