Linguistics Association Of Great Britain
The Linguistics Association of Great Britain (LAGB) is an association which claims to be the leading professional association for academic linguists there. The association's predecessor was the Germanist Jeffrey Ellis' Linguistic Circle at Hull University which became active in the late 1950s. It was renamed LAGB and had its first meeting of significance on 1 November 1959. The association has published the Journal of Linguistics since 1964. The ''Journal of Linguistics'' is a triannual peer-reviewed academic journal covering all branches of theoretical linguistics and the official publication of the Linguistics Association of Great Britain. David Adger
David Adger, (born 23 September 1967) is a Professor of Linguistics at Queen Mary University of London. Adger is interested in the human capacity for syntax. Adger served as president of the Linguistics Association of Great Britain from 2015 to 2020. Early life and education Adger was born on 23 September 1967 in Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland. At the age of eleven Adger became fascinated by language, reading Ursula K. Le Guin's A Wizard of Earthsea. At the age of sixteen, Adger won a school competition coordinated by the University of St Andrews and spent the money on copies of Noam Chomsky's Aspects of the Theory of Syntax. He studied linguistics and artificial intelligence at the University of Edinburgh. Adger has described his undergraduate teaching as one of the "exhilarating experiences of my life". Professor Kersti Börjars (born 1960) is a linguist who is Master of St Catherine's College, Oxford. Education Börjars was educated in Sweden at Uppsala University (''Filosofie Kandidat''), and then in the Netherlands at the University of Leiden (''Doctorandus'') before completing a PhD at the University of Manchester. Academic career Since 1994, Börjars has been a member of staff at the University of Manchester, where she was promoted to professor in 2002.
