2021 Social Christian Unity Party Presidential Primary
The 2021 Social Christian Unity Party presidential primary, also known as the Social Christian National Convention was the primary election process by which supporters of the Social Christian Unity Party selected their presidential candidate for the 2022 Costa Rican general election, 2022 general elections. General elections were held in Costa Rica on 6 February 2022, to elect the president, two vice-presidents, and all 57 deputies of the Legislative Assembly. As none of the presidential nominees obtained at least 40% of the votes, a runoff was held on 3 April 2022, between the top two candidates, José María Figueres and Rodrigo Chaves Robles. Rodrigo Chaves Robles of the Social Democratic Progress Party, a former official of the World Bank and former Minister of Finance with an anti-establishment reputation, won 52.9% of the votes in the run-off ballot and was declared president-elect by the Electoral Tribunal. Rival candidate and former president José Maria Figueres of the National Liberation Party received 47.1% of the votes and conceded defeat.
