Line 2 (Bilbao Metro)
Line 2 of the Bilbao metro is a rapid transit line in Biscay, Basque Country (autonomous community), Basque Country, Spain. It runs from Basauri (Bilbao metro), Basauri to Kabiezes (Bilbao metro), Kabiezes. Its route covers the municipalities of Basauri and Etxebarri, the city of Bilbao and the left bank of the Nervión river. The line has 25 stations. History The first phase of the line opened on 13 April 2002, with five stations; Gurutzeta/Cruces (Bilbao metro), Gurutzeta/Cruces, Ansio (Bilbao metro), Ansio, Barakaldo (Bilbao metro), Barakaldo, Bagatza (Bilbao metro), Bagatza and Urbinaga (Bilbao metro), Urbinaga. Urbinaga (Bilbao Metro)
Urbinaga is a station on Line 2 (Bilbao metro), line 2 of the Bilbao metro. It is located in the neighborhood of Simondrogas, in the municipality of Sestao, next to the Sestao water treatment plant and in proximity to the Estadio Lasesarre, Lasesarre football stadium. It opened on 8 January 2005 and it acted as northern terminus for line 2 until the opening of the Portugalete extension in 2007. Bolueta (Bilbao Metro)
Bolueta is a station on lines 1 and 2 of the Bilbao metro. The station is located in the neighborhood of the same name, in the district of Begoña. It opened on 5 July 1997. Until 2019 it was also served by suburban Euskotren Trena trains coming from Durango, Bermeo and San Sebastián. Between 2017 and 2019, these lines were diverted through line 3 of the metro, completely bypassing Bolueta. In 2022, the Bilbao tram reached Bolueta along the disused railway corridor. Etxebarri (Bilbao Metro)
Etxebarri is a station on lines 1 and 2 of the Bilbao metro. It is the southern terminus of line 1. The station is located in the municipality of Etxebarri, part of the Bilbao metropolitan area. It was opened in 2005. The station is on Fuenlabrada street, next to a park and ride parking facility. The Euskotren Trena commuter railway network has a station with the same name at a distance of about , but the two stations are not connected. Services The station is served by the line 1 to Ibarbengoa and Plentzia, and also by line 2 from Basauri to Santurtzi. Connecting bus services are provided by EtxebarriBus, a local bus service managed by the Etxebarri municipality. San Ignazio (until 2017, ''San Inazio'') is a station on lines 1 and 2 of the Bilbao metro. It is located in the San Ignazio-Elorrieta neighbourhood, part of the Deusto district. The station is in close proximity to the San Ignazio Sports Center and the Elorrieta football field. It was opened on 11 November 1995. Station layout San Ignazio is the only one of the underground stations in the metro to have three tracks and an island platform. Gurutzeta/Cruces is a station on line 2 of the Bilbao metro. It is located in the neighborhood of Gurutzeta, in the municipality of Barakaldo. Nervión
Nervión (; ) is a river that runs through the town of Bilbao, Spain into the Cantabrian Sea (Bay of Biscay). Its lowermost course, downstream of its confluence with the Ibaizabal River, is known as the Estuary of Bilbao. Geography The river is long from its source at the Burgos and Alava provincial limits to the sea and runs in a South to North direction. Soon after its source, the river forms a spectacular waterfall in the Delika canyon ( Alava) and then enters the Biscay province through the city of Orduña. This waterfall is the largest in Spain with its 222 metres. It re-enters Alava through the towns of Amurrio and Llodio. The river then runs back into Biscay province and out to the Cantabrian sea, entering the Bilbao metropolitan area at Ugao-Miraballes. The tidal influence reaches inland from the sea, in Bilbao's old town.
