Linda Gates
Linda Gates (born 1963) is an American former professional tennis player. Biography A native of Burlingame, California, Gates played college tennis for Stanford University in the early 1980s. She made history at the 1985 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championships when she became the first woman to win consecutive doubles championships, as well as the first woman to win the singles and doubles championship in the same year. She won the Broderick Award (now the Honda Sports Award) as the nation's top collegiate tennis player in 1985. Gates had her best performance in a grand slam tournament at the 1985 Australian Open, where she was a quarter-finalist in the women's doubles, partnering Alycia Moulton. Cynthia MacGregor
Cynthia MacGregor (March 26, 1964 – February 13, 1996) was a professional tennis player from the United States. Biography MacGregor, who was known as "Cinny", was born in Torrance, California. From 1983 to 1986, she played collegiate tennis at San Diego State University, where she was a five time All-American. She competed on the professional tour mostly as a doubles player, reaching 50 in the world. In doubles she often partnered with younger sister Cammy MacGregor and the pair made four WTA Tour finals together, including a title win in Taipei in 1987. Caryn Wilson
Caryn Copeland-Wilson (born March 14, 1961) is an American amateur golfer and former professional tennis player. In 1999 she became the second person in history, after Althea Gibson, to have competed in both the US Open (tennis) and United States Women's Open Championship (golf). Before picking up golf in her late 20s, Wilson played college tennis for Stanford University (as Caryn Copeland) and served as captain of the Cardinals' 1982 NCAA Division I championship winning side. Jennifer Goodling (born April 26, 1962) is a former professional tennis player from the United States. Biography Early life Goodling grew up in York, Pennsylvania, the daughter of a US congressman. Her grandfather George Atlee Goodling had also been a US congressman from Pennsylvania, before being succeeded by his son, Jennifer's father William F. Goodling, in 1975. Helen Elizabeth "Betsy" Nagelsen McCormack (born October 23, 1956) is an American former professional tennis player. Career Nagelsen was the world's top junior in 1973. She won the 1973 U.S. Champion Girls' 16 and under singles. She also won the USTA Girls' Sportsmanship Award in 1974. As a professional, she won the doubles championship at the 1978 and 1980 Australian Opens (with Renáta Tomanová and Martina Navratilova, respectively), and reached the singles final of the 1978 Australian Open, losing to Christine O'Neil. The Japan Open (currently sponsored by Rakuten) is a men's tennis tournament held in Ariake Tennis Forest Park with its center court Ariake Coliseum, located in Koto, Tokyo, Japan. It was originally founded in 1915 as the Japan International Championships. In 2018, the venue switched to the Musashino Forest Sports Plaza as the Ariake Coliseum is being renovated for the tennis events at the 2020 Summer Olympics. The championship includes men's singles and doubles competitions. From 1979 until 2008 the Japan Open was a joint tournament for both men and women. This is no longer the case in the aftermath of the Ariake Coliseum hosting another women's professional tournament, the Pan Pacific Open.
