Lina Eichler
Lina Eichler (born 2002) is a German climate activist and a prominent member of the Last Generation. She has been a hunger striker and involved with a wide variety of acts of disruption to bring attention to the climate change emergency. Life Eichler was born in about 2002 and she is from North Rhine-Westphalia. At a time when she was scheduled to complete her high school graduation she decided to drop out and devote herself to activism. She came to notice as a member of "The Last Generation" who went on hunger strike ( ) to attract attention to the group's concerns about climate change. They demanded meetings with key candidates for the German Chancellorship, and a citizen's assembly to find ways to limit climate change to 1.5 degrees. The group considered the strike to be the last possible peaceful protest. Eichler abandoned the strike after she collapsed after nearly three weeks and she was hospitalised in 2021. Last Generation (activists)
The Last Generation (German: , , Italian: ) is a group of climate change activism, climate change activists mostly active in Germany, Italy, and Austria. ''Last Generation'' describes itself as an "alliance" and was formed in 2021 from participants in the ("last generation hunger strike"). The term was chosen because they considered themselves to be the last generation before Tipping points in the climate system, tipping points in the Climate, earth's climate system would be reached. Climate Change Mitigation
Climate change mitigation is action to limit climate change by reducing emissions of greenhouse gases or removing those gases from the atmosphere. The recent rise in global average temperature is mostly caused by emissions from fossil fuels burning (coal, oil, and natural gas). Mitigation can reduce emissions by transitioning to sustainable energy sources, conserving energy, and increasing efficiency. Olaf Scholz
Olaf Scholz (; born ) is a German politician who has served as the chancellor of Germany since 8 December 2021. A member of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), he previously served as Vice Chancellor under Angela Merkel and as Federal Minister of Finance from 2018 to 2021. He was also First Mayor of Hamburg from 2011 to 2018 and deputy leader of the SPD from 2009 to 2019. Scholz began his career as a lawyer specialising in labour and employment law. Henning Jeschke
Henning Jeschke (born 2000 in Greifswald) is a German climate activist, and part of the activists group Last Generation. He used to study political science before turning to full-time activism. Life Jeschke received considerable press coverage in 2021 being part of a hunger strike shortly before the federal election. The strikers had called on the three main chancellor candidates to publicly discuss measures against the climate crisis. Lina Eichler collapsed and was, like others, sent to hospital. The strike ended after four weeks when Olaf Scholz agreed to hold a conversation within the next month. The meeting eventually took place on 12 November 2021, with Jeschke being joined by fellow Last Generation activist Lea Bonasera.
