Limnophila Repens
''Limnophila repens'', the creeping marshweed, is a herbaceous plant belonging to the family Plantaginaceae. It grows up to 45 cm tall both in terrestrial and fresh water habitats. The plant has a strong aromatic smell. Stems are covered with fine hair. Leaves are subsessile opposite and oblong. Violet-pink(rarely yellow) flowers are axilary and solitary or in short racemes. George Bentham (22 September 1800 – 10 September 1884) was an English botanist, described by the weed botanist Duane Isely as "the premier systematic botanist of the nineteenth century". Born into a distinguished family, he initially studied law, but had a fascination with botany from an early age, which he soon pursued, becoming president of the Linnaean Society in 1861, and a fellow of the Royal Society in 1862. He was the author of a number of important botanical works, particularly flora. He is best known for his taxonomic classification of plants in collaboration with Joseph Dalton Hooker, his ''Genera Plantarum'' (1862–1883). He died in London in 1884. Plantaginaceae
Plantaginaceae, the plantain family, is a large, diverse family of flowering plants in the order Lamiales that includes common flowers such as snapdragon and foxglove. It is unrelated to the banana-like fruit also called "plantain." In older classifications, Plantaginaceae was the only family of the order Plantaginales, but numerous phylogenetic studies, summarized by the Angiosperm Phylogeny Group, have demonstrated that this taxon should be included within Lamiales. Overview The plantain family as traditionally circumscribed consisted of only three genera: '' Bougueria'', '' Littorella'', and '' Plantago''. However phylogenetic research has indicated that Plantaginaceae ''sensu stricto'' (in the strict sense) were nested within Scrophulariaceae (but forming a group that did not include the type genus of that family, '' Scrophularia'').
