Lily Wangchuk
Lily Wangchuk or Lily Wangchhuk (born October 15, 1972) is a Bhutanese politician, diplomat and activist. A diplomat between 1994 and 2008, in November 2012 she became the first Bhutanese woman to be appointed president of a political party. Background and education Wangchuk was born into a noble family. Her grandfather, Rinzin Dorji, served as the last Daga Penlop under the second King Jigme Wangchuck and third King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk. Her father died when she was very young and her mother left the family to become a nun. She studied International Diplomacy at the Australian National University, and Human Rights and International Law at the Indian Academy of International Law and Diplomacy. She further studied Political Science at Miranda College in India. Druk Phuensum Tshogpa ( dz, འབྲུག་ཕུན་སུམ་ཚོགས་པ།; Wylie:'' 'brug phun-sum tshog-pa''; translation: Bhutan Peace and Prosperity Party; abbr. DPT) is one of the major political parties in Bhutan. It was formed on 25 July 2007 as a merger of the All People's Party and the Bhutan People's United Party, which were both short-lived. The working committee of the merged entity, headed by the former home minister, Jigmi Yoezer Thinley, decided on the name for the new party. On 15 August 2007, Jigmi Yoezer Thinley was elected president of the party, and the party applied for registration, thus becoming the second political party in Bhutan to do so. 2018 Bhutanese National Assembly Election
National Assembly elections were held in Bhutan in 2018; the first round was held on 15 September and the second round on 18 October. The ruling People's Democratic Party of former Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay came third in the first round of voting, unexpectedly failing to advance to the second round and resulting in it losing all 32 seats. The second round was a contest between the Druk Phuensum Tshogpa, the only other party with parliamentary representation, and the unrepresented Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa, which received the most votes in the first round.
