Lille Métropole Half Marathon
The Lille Métropole Half Marathon (French: ''Semi-Marathon de Lille Métropole'') is an annual half marathon foot race which takes place in Lille, France, in early September. First organised by the Association de Promotion des Événements Lillois in 1986, the race began as a marathon event before switching to the shorter distance in 1996. The course of the race begins in the Boulevard de la Liberté and finishes at the front of Lille's city hall on Rue de Paris. The French Half Marathon Championships were held concurrently with the final edition of the marathon race in 1995. Bruno Leger was the men's winner with a time of 1:02:31 while Christine Mallo took the women's title in 1:12:05. The half marathon race has delivered some fast winning times – the 2009 race saw the top three men run under an hour and Mary Keitany ran the seventh quickest run ever to become the women's race winner. The 10K run is a long-distance road running competition over a distance of . Also referred to as the 10K road race, 10 km, or simply 10K, it is one of the most common types of road running event, alongside the shorter 5K and longer half marathon and marathon. Luis Soares (24 March 1964 – 13 November 2024) was a Portuguese-French long-distance runner. Born in Nazaré, he started to run for his birth country, before settling in France in 1986 and being naturalized French in 1989. On 29 March 1992, he won the Paris Marathon with a personal best of 2:10:03, setting a new French national record which stood until 1998. Chantal Langlacé (born 6 January 1955) is a French long-distance runner who is recognized by the International Association of Athletics Federations as having set a world best in the marathon on two occasions. Langlacé set a world best mark on 27 October 1974 with a 2:46:24 performance in Neuf-Brisach, France, then recaptured it from American Jacqueline Hansen on 1 May 1977 with 2:35:16 in Oiartzun, Spain. Langlacé earned a national title in the 25 kilometers and set five national records in the marathon, as well as one each in the half marathon, the 25 kilometers, the 100 kilometers, and the one hour run. Jacques "Jacky" Boxberger (16 April 1949 – 9 August 2001) was a track and field athlete from France who specialized in long-distance races. He was the great hope of French middle-distance running, breaking the junior world record in the 1500 metres at Stade Charléty in 1968. He represented France at the 1968, 1972, 1976 and 1984 Summer Olympics, placing sixth in the 1968 1500 metres and 42nd in the 1984 marathon. He also won the Paris Marathon in 1983 and 1985, the 1500 metres title at the 1972 European Athletics Indoor Championships, the Marrakech Marathon in 1987, and French titles in the 1500 metres, 5000 metres, and 10000 metres.
