Lilith is a feminine given name sometimes given in reference to Lilith, a character in Jewish folklore who was said to be the first wife of the first man Adam who disobeyed him, was banished from the Garden of Eden, and who became a mythical she-demon. The mythological tale has inspired modern feminists. It was also the name of Lilith Fair, a concert tour and traveling music festival from 1997 to 1999 that featured only female artists and female-led bands. Lilith and Black Moon Lilith are placements in modern astrology that are said to represent women's liberation. Its similarity in sound to the etymologically unrelated, popular name Lily might also have increased awareness of the name. Other names starting with the letter L as well as mythological names have been well used by new parents in recent years. Lillith is a spelling variant. Gabriel Charles Dante Rossetti (12 May 1828 – 9 April 1882), generally known as Dante Gabriel Rossetti ( ; ), was an English poet, illustrator, painter, translator, and member of the Rossetti family. Lilith "Lilit" Naggar (; born 1935), also known as Layla Najar (Arabic: ليلى نجار), is an Israeli Arabic-language television host, actress, and singer. Lilit Pipoyan (; born June 16, 1955) is an Armenian musician, singer, and architect. Pipoyan belongs to a narrow circle of modern Armenian musicians whose works present an alternative to the traditional folk, classical, spiritual and pop music. Biography Born in Yerevan to a family of artists, she graduated from the Spendiaryan specialized music school and later studied architecture, receiving her PhD in the Theory and History of Armenian Architecture. Pipoyan's compositions are based on Armenian poetry and folklore. Lilit Mkrtchian (; born 9 August 1982) is an Armenian chess player. She holds the titles of International Master (IM) and Woman Grandmaster (WGM), which FIDE awarded her in 2003 and 1998 respectively. Mkrtchian is a four-time Armenian women's chess champion. Career In 2002, Mkrtchian won the silver medal in the European Individual Women's Championship in Varna, Bulgaria, scoring 8½/11 points.
