Lilioceris Cheni
''Lilioceris cheni'', the air potato leaf beetle, is a species of beetle in the genus '' Lilioceris'' that feeds on air potato plants. Air potatoes and the beetles are both native to Asia but have been introduced elsewhere. The air potato plants are an invasive species found throughout Florida Florida ( ; ) is a U.S. state, state in the Southeastern United States, Southeastern region of the United States. Lilioceris
''Lilioceris'' is a genus of beetles in the leaf beetle family, Chrysomelidae. The genus was first scientifically described in 1912 by Edmund Reitter. ''Lilioceris'' belongs to the subfamily Criocerinae and tribe Criocerini (Latreille, 1807). The family of beetles are of importance in horticulture because of their impact on the cultivation of lilies. ''Lilioceris cheni'' was introduced into Central Florida by biologists to try to control the spread of invasive air potato plants. Description Species of ''Lilioceris'' are between 4 and 10 mm long. The body has a long narrow shape, with a pronounced shoulder between the elytra and pronotum. Both the larvae and the adult (imago) beetles feed on plants. Lifecycle ''Lilioceris'' species are holometabolous, having a complete metamorphosis. The larvae proceed to a pupation stage to develop into adults. Diversity Well over 100 species are described, with 80 in Asia alone.Tishechkin, A. K., et al. (2011)Review of the continen ...

Air Potato
''Dioscorea bulbifera'' (commonly known as the air potato, air yam, bitter yam, cheeky yam, potato yam, aerial yam, and parsnip yam) is a species of true Yam (vegetable), yam in the yam family (biology), family, Dioscoreaceae. It is native to Africa, Asia and northern Australia. It is widely cultivated and has become naturalized in many regions (Latin America, the West Indies, the southeastern United States, and various oceanic islands). It is also known as the up-yam in Nigerian Pidgin English, since the plant is cultivated more for its bulbils than for its tubers. Description ''Dioscorea bulbifera'' is a Perennial plant, perennial vine with broad, alternate leaves, and two types of storage organs. The plant forms bulbils in the leaf axils of the twining stems, and tubers beneath the ground. These tubers are like small, oblong potatoes. Some varieties are edible and plant cultivation, cultivated as a agriculture, food crop, especially in West Africa. The tubers of edib ...

Invasive Species
An invasive species is an introduced species that harms its new environment. Invasive species adversely affect habitats and bioregions, causing ecological, environmental, and/or economic damage. The term can also be used for native species that become harmful to their native environment after human alterations to its food web. Since the 20th century, invasive species have become serious economic, social, and environmental threats worldwide. Invasion of long-established ecosystems by organisms is a natural phenomenon, but human-facilitated introductions have greatly increased the rate, scale, and geographic range of invasion. For millennia, humans have served as both accidental and deliberate dispersal agents, beginning with their earliest migrations, accelerating in the Age of Discovery, and accelerating again with the spread of international trade. Notable invasive plant species include the kudzu vine, giant hogweed (''Heracleum mantegazzianum''), Japanese knotw ...
