Like Once Lili Marleen
''Like Once Lili Marleen'' (German: ''...wie einst Lili Marleen'') is a 1956 West German romantic drama film directed by Paul Verhoeven and starring Adrian Hoven, Marianne Hold and Claus Holm.Lehrke p.128 The title refers to the popular wartime song "Lili Marleen" popularised by Lale Anderson, who performs it at a concert at the end of the film. It was shot at the Spandau Studios in West Berlin. The film's sets were designed by the art directors Albrecht Hennings and Karl Weber. Synopsis Violinmaker Franz Brugger is in love with Christa. When he is conscripted during the Second World War she promises to wait for him. He fights on the Eastern Front for four years and then is held as a prisoner of war by the Soviets for a further ten. All along he is kept going by the song "Lili Marlene" and the thought of Christa. Paul Verhoeven (German Director)
Paul Verhoeven (; born 18 July 1938) is a Dutch filmmaker. His blending of graphic violence and sexual content with social satire is a trademark of both his drama and science fiction films. After receiving attention for the TV series '' Floris'' in his native Netherlands, Verhoeven got his film breakthrough with romantic drama '' Turkish Delight'' (1973), starring frequent collaborator Rutger Hauer. Wolfgang Preiss
Wolfgang Preiss (27 February 1910 – 27 November 2002) was a German theatre, film and television actor. The son of a teacher, Preiss studied philosophy, German, and drama in the early 1930s. He also took private acting classes with Hans Schlenck, making his stage début in Munich in 1932. He appeared in various theatre productions in Heidelberg, Königsberg, Bonn, Bremen, Stuttgart and Berlin. In 1942, he made his film début – he was specifically exempted from military service – in the UFA production '' Die grosse Liebe'' with Zarah Leander. After the end of the Second World War, Preiss returned to the theatre, and from 1949 worked extensively dubbing films into German. In 1954, he returned to film acting, appearing in Alfred Weidenmann's ''Canaris''. Käthe Haack (born Käte Lisbeth Minna Sophie Isolde Haack; 11 August 1897 – 5 May 1986) was a German stage and film actress. Hannelore Emilie Käte Grete Schroth (; 10 January 1922 – 7 July 1987) was a German film, stage, and television actress whose career spanned over five decades. Career Born in Berlin in 1922, she was the daughter of popular stage and film actors Heinrich Schroth and Käthe Haack.
