Lihi Ben-David
Lihi Ben-David ( he, ליהיא בן-דוד; born 1995) is an Israeli Paralympic goalball player. Ben-David suffers from macular degeneration and is aided by a guide dog. She has a twin brother Or Ben-David who plays for the Israel men's national goalball team. Ben-David began playing goalball at age 11 and joined the Israel women's national goalball team. In 2015 she scored the winning goal at the IBSA World Games, with the team winning a gold medal and ensuring their spot at the 2016 Summer Paralympics. Throughout the 2019 Goalball European Championship Ben-David scored 32 goals and the Israeli national team reached second place and ensured its place at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. Goalball
Goalball is a team sport designed specifically for athletes with a vision impairment. Participants compete in teams of three, and try to throw a ball that has bells embedded inside of it into the opponents' goal. The ball is thrown by hand and never kicked. Using ear-hand coordination, originating as a rehabilitation exercise, the sport has no able-bodied equivalent. Able-bodied athletes are also blindfolded when playing this sport. Played indoors, usually on a volleyball court, games consist of twelve-minute halves (formerly ten-minute halves) with three-minute half-time. Where there is a tie, golden goal overtime occurs in the form of two three-minute periods (and a second three-minute half-time). If the tie persists, a paired shootout ('extra throws' and 'sudden death extra throws') determines the winner. Sherut Leumi ( he, שירות לאומי, lit. ''National Service'') is an alternative voluntary national service in Israel for those who are ineligible for service in the Israel Defense Forces or object to serving in the army, mostly for religious Jewish girls, although also for candidates of both genders with other reasons. History The majority who receive an exemption from the obligatory army service are Jewish women from the Religious Zionist sector, and they receive it by declaring religious observance, as they maintain that a large number of religious observances for women cannot be upheld in the military, such as dress codes and modesty issues. The IBSA World Games (formerly IBSA World Championships and Games) or World Blind Games are an international multi-sport event, occurring every four years, organized by the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA).
