Team Handball
Handball (also known as team handball, European handball, Olympic handball or indoor handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a Handball goalkeeper, goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the opposing team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Modern handball is played on a court of , with a goal in the middle of each end. The French Handball Federation () (FFHB) is the national team handball, handball association in France. Founded on 1 September 1941, FFHB organizes handball and beach handball within France and represents France internationally. It sorts under the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports (France), French Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. LNH Division 1, doing business as Starligue and currently known as Liqui Moly Starligue for sponsorship reasons, is the premier men's professional handball league in France. It is administered by the Ligue Nationale de Handball, under delegation from the French Handball Federation. Founded in 1952, it is currently contested by 16 teams. Montpellier Handball is the most successful club with 14 titles, and the club which won the most consecutive titles is Paris Saint-Germain with 11 between 2015 and 2025. The champion and the vice-champion are directly qualified for the group phase of the EHF Champions League. The winners of the Coupe de France and the Coupe de la Ligue are qualified for the European League. Coupe De La Ligue (handball)
The Coupe de la Ligue was an annual League cup competition for French men's handball professional clubs. Organized by the Ligue Nationale de Handball, it first took place in 2002. He was run by the French Handball Federation for the two first years, and in 2004 the Ligue Nationale de Handball took over until it was cancelled in 2022.. Montpellier Handball is the competition's most successful club as of 2019 with ten titles, followed by Paris Saint-Germain Handball with three. In the 2019-2020 the tournament was cancelled at the semifinals, and in the 2020-2021 season, it was cancelled outright.. The Trophée des Champions is a Super Cup in handball created in March 2010 by the Ligue Nationale de Handball, the main body of French handball. The competition usually takes place at the beginning of September a few days before the championship resumes and is therefore the first official match of the season. Philippe Bernat-Salles (born 17 February 1970) is a retired French rugby union player, usually playing as a wing. His main skill was a blinding speed, while he was also visually striking due to his unruly mop of gray hair. Early life Bernat-Salles was born in Pau, Pyrénées-Atlantiques. He went through the youth teams of Bizanos before joining AS Idron-Lee, in which first XV he debuted at the age of 16. Before starting his professional career, Bernat-Salles worked as an electrician. Olivier Damien Girault (born 22 February 1973) is a now retired French team handball player, who is currently the coach of the Paris Handball team. He retired as a field player in 2008 after the victory of the France men's national handball team (of which he was the captain) at the Beijing Olympics. He won all three major championships with the national team: world championship in 2001, European championship in 2006 and olympic champion in 2008, as mentioned above. Bruno Martini (handballer)
Bruno Martini (born 1970) is a French former team handball goalkeeper. He was a part of the French national team that won the 1995 World Championship; the first time France ever won a major international tournament. Career Martini played for the OM Vitrolles between 1991-1994, where he won the EHF Cup Winners' Cup in 1993 and the French Championship in 1994. In 1994 he joined Istres Provence Handball, where he played for a year before returning to OM Vitrolles. Here he once again won the French championship, before leaving for Spanish SD Teucro, when OM Vitrolles went bankrupt and were administratively relegated. After a year in Spain he returned to France and played for Spacer's Toulouse. Here he won the Coupe de France in 1998, before joining Spanish team BM Cangas.
