Bedouin Soundclash is a Canadian band based in Toronto and consisting of vocalist and guitarist Jay Malinowski, bass player Eon Sinclair, and various session musicians. Their sound has been described as a combination of reggae and ska. Bedouin Soundclash was formed in 2001 and has released six studio albums, most recently in 2022. History The band members met while attending Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. The name Bedouin Soundclash is from a dub record by Badawi, released on ROIR records in 1996. They released their first album, ''Root Fire'' in 2001, and their second album, '' Sounding a Mosaic'', in 2004. During the recording of ''Sounding a Mosaic'', Bedouin Soundclash formed a close bond with producer Darryl Jenifer of Bad Brains, with whom they continue to work today. Reggae () is a music genre that originated in Jamaica during the late 1960s. The term also denotes the modern popular music of Jamaica and its Jamaican diaspora, diaspora. A 1968 single by Toots and the Maytals, "Do the Reggay", was the first popular song to use the word ''reggae'', effectively naming the genre and introducing it to a global audience. Cœur De Pirate
Béatrice Mireille Martin (; born 22 September 1989), better known by her stage name Cœur de pirate (; French for ''Pirate's Heart''), is a Canadian singer-songwriter and pianist. A francophone from Montreal, she sings mostly in French and has been credited in ''Montreal Mirror'' with "bringing '' la chanson française'' to a whole new generation of Quebec youth." Career Early beginnings Born in the province of Quebec, Martin started playing the piano when she was only three years old. Jay Malinowski (born 1982) is a Canadian singer, songwriter, visual artist and writer. He was born in Montreal, Quebec, and grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia. He is best known as the vocalist and guitarist for reggae group Bedouin Soundclash. Personal life Born in Montreal, Quebec in 1982, Malinowski's family moved to Vancouver, British Columbia when he was nine months old. He attended St. George's School where he played his first show at the age of 16 as part of a school talent night. He received the Rigg Scholarship in his last year of high school. He attended Queen's University where he graduated with a Bachelor Of Fine Arts Degree in 2004. He met Eon Sinclair at Queen's and after discovering their mutual love of reggae music, decided to form their own band, Bedouin Soundclash, with fellow Queen's student, Patrick Pengelly.
