''La Vie est belle '' / ''Life is Rosy'' is a 1987 musical comedy directed by Mwezé Ngangura and Benoît Lamy. The film revolves around the vibrant music scene of Kinshasa and tells the rags-to-riches story of a poor rural musician played by legendary Congolese musician, Papa Wemba, the “King of Rumba Rock”, who seeks fame in the big city. Mwezé Ngangura
Mwezé Ngangura (born 7 October 1950) is a film director from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Considered a pioneer of Congolese filmmaking, he is known for the classic '' La Vie est Belle'' (1987)'','' the first feature film made in the DRC. Early life and education Mwezé Ngangura was born in Bukavu, Democratic Republic of Congo (then called Zaire) on 7 October 1950. At the age of twenty he won a scholarship to study in Belgium, with the criteria that he had to pursue an area of study not available in Zaire. There were no Congolese film schools at the time, and interested in filmmaking, Ngangura went on to pursue film studies at the Institut des Arts de Diffusion in Louvain-la-Neuve, graduating in 1975. Film Fest Gent, also known as International Film Fest Gent, is an annual international film festival in Ghent, Belgium. The festival held its first edition in 1974, under the name Internationaal Filmgebeuren Gent, and has since grown into the largest film festival in Belgium. Biography Pépé Kallé was born Kabasele Yampanya in Kinshasa (then Léopoldville) in the Belgian Congo, but later assumed his pseudonym in hommage to his mentor, Le Grand Kallé. Benoît Lamy (; 19 September 1945 – 15 April 2008) was a Belgian film director, best known for his picture '' Home Sweet Home'' (1973). Biography Lamy was born in Arlon in the Belgian Province of Luxembourg and died in Braine-l'Alleud, Walloon Brabant, Belgium. His film debut '' Home Sweet Home'' starring Claude Jade and Jacques Perrin won a Diploma award at the 8th Moscow International Film Festival. It was also nominated for a Golden Prize award and received 14 international awards from Montréal to Tehran. Along with Gabrielle Borile, their picture ''Combat de fauves'' (1997) won a Golden Bayard award at the Namur International Festival of French-Speaking Film.
