Life (2009 TV Series)
''Life'' is a British nature documentary series created and produced by the BBC in association with The Open University. It was first broadcast as part of the BBC's Darwin Season on BBC One and BBC HD from October to December 2009. The series takes a global view of the specialised strategies and extreme behaviour that living things have developed in order to survive; what Charles Darwin termed "the struggle for existence". Four years in the making, the series was shot entirely in high definition. ''Life'' premiered on 12 October 2009 in the United Kingdom consisting of ten 50-minute episodes. The opening programme gives a general introduction to the series, a second look at plants, and the remainder are dedicated to some of the major animal groups. David Attenborough
Sir David Frederick Attenborough (; born 8 May 1926) is an English broadcaster, biologist, natural historian and author. He is best known for writing and presenting, in conjunction with the BBC Natural History Unit, the nine natural history documentary series forming the ''Life'' collection, a comprehensive survey of animal and plant life on Earth. Attenborough was a senior manager at the BBC, having served as controller of BBC Two and director of programming for BBC Television in the 1960s and 1970s. Skai TV
Skai TV (Greek: ΣΚΑΪ) is a Greek free-to-air television network based in Piraeus. It is part of the Skai Group, one of the largest media groups in the country. It was relaunched in its present form on 1 April 2006 in the Athens metropolitan area, and gradually spread its coverage nationwide. Besides digital terrestrial transmission, it is available on the subscription-based encrypted services of Nova and Cosmote TV. Skai TV is also a member of Digea, a consortium of private television networks introducing digital terrestrial transmission in Greece. At launch, Skai TV opted for dubbing all foreign language content into Greek, instead of using subtitles. ''Frozen Planet'' is a 2011 British nature documentary series, co-produced by the BBC and The Open University. It was filmed by the BBC Natural History Unit. The production team, which includes executive producer Alastair Fothergill and series producer Vanessa Berlowitz, were previously responsible for the award-winning series ''The Blue Planet'' (2001) and ''Planet Earth'' (2006), and ''Frozen Planet'' is billed as a sequel of sorts. Patrick Morris is a British producer, director and series producer of many wildlife documentaries. Life/Career Morris attended King’s College, Taunton, and the University of Leeds, graduating with a first-class honours degree in Zoology. Morris began his career working in East Africa with renowned film-maker Hugo van Lawick producing films for the BBC, Discovery Channel, National Geographic, and PBS Nova, including ''Islands in the African Sky'', ''Wings over the Serengeti,'' and ''Africa's Paradise of Thorns''. Martha Holmes is a BAFTA Award-winning BBC Television producer and writer known for her wildlife documentaries. Biography Holmes studied for a PhD in marine biology at the University of York.
