Lidice Pousa
Lidice (; ) is a municipality and village in Kladno District in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 600 inhabitants. Lidice is built near the site of the previous village, which was Lidice massacre, completely destroyed on 10 June 1942 on orders from Adolf Hitler and acting ''Reichsprotektor'' Kurt Daluege in reprisal for the assassination of Reich Protector Reinhard Heydrich. Etymology The name is derived from the personal name Lída (in old Czech written as Ľúda), meaning "the village of Lída's people". The personal name is a shortened form of the female name Ludmila (given name), Ludmila/Lidmila, but it also became a surname. Geography Lidice is located about east of Kladno and northwest of Prague. The Prague Plateau () is a plateau and a geomorphological mesoregion of the Czech Republic. It is located in the area of Prague and in the Central Bohemian Region. Geomorphology The Prague Plateau is a mesoregion of the Brdy Macroregion within the Bohemian Massif. It is a denudation plateau with neogene aligned surfaces. Inselbergs and structural ridges are a characteristic element of the relief. The plateau is further subdivided into the microregions of Říčany Plateau and Kladno Table. The area is rich in low peaks. D7 Motorway (Czech Republic)
D7 motorway () is a Controlled-access highway, motorway connecting Prague to Chomutov, and to the Germany, German border. As of 2025, the motorway is long. Until 31 December 2015, the road was designated as the Expressway R7 (). Course The D7 motorway is a not yet fully completed motorway leading from Prague through Louny to Spořice near Chomutov. It will be long once complete and is planned as a four-lane road throughout its entire length. Prague to Louny The D7 motorway starts in the north-west of Prague, with a temporary free connection to the I/7 road. From the Ruzyně off-ramp, the motorway continues in a north-westerly direction towards Slaném, passing the town of Buštěhrad. Sir Barnett Stross (25 December 1899 – 13 May 1967) was a British doctor and politician. He served twenty years as a Labour Party Member of Parliament, famously led the humanitarian campaign "Lidice Shall Live" and pushed for reforms in industry to protect workers. His grand-nephew Charles Stross is an author. Early life and education Barnett Stross was born to a Jewish family, originally bearing the name Strasberg, in Poland on 25 December 1899. His parents Samuel and Cecilia, a rabbi's daughter, were married in Poland in 1880. Barnett, called Bob by his family, had eleven siblings. When he was three, his family moved to Dewsbury. Assassination Of Reinhard Heydrich
Reinhard Heydrich, the commander of the German Reich Security Main Office (RSHA), the acting governor of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia and a principal architect of the Holocaust, was assassinated during the Second World War in a coordinated operation by the Czechoslovak resistance. The assassination attempt, code-named Operation Anthropoid, was carried out by resistance operatives Jozef Gabčík and Jan Kubiš on 27 May 1942. Heydrich was wounded in the attack and died of his injuries on 4 June. The operatives who carried out the assassination were soldiers of the Czechoslovak Army who were prepared and trained by the British Special Operations Executive (SOE) with the approval of the Czechoslovak government-in-exile, led by Edvard Beneš. The Czechoslovaks undertook the operation to help confer legitimacy on the government-in-exile, and to exact retribution for Heydrich's brutal rule.
