Gareth Liddiard
Gareth Liddiard is an Australian musician, best known as a founding member of both The Drones and Tropical Fuck Storm. Musically active since 1997, he also released a solo album titled '' Strange Tourist'' in 2010. Early life and education Liddiard was born in Port Hedland, Western Australia. His family lived in south-west London before returning to WA, where he started school in Perth. Initially his musical interest lay in jazz, and he began playing the saxophone, but he eventually found his way to rock and roll music. He started playing in bands during his high school years at Duncraig High School. As a teenager, Liddiard listened to the music of artists such as Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Black Flag (band), Black Flag, and John Coltrane. At the age of 18, Liddiard gained employment with a concert lighting firm in Perth and remained in this role for seven years, working with festivals such as the Big Day Out and bands such as Kim Salmon and the Surrealists. She is known for her role as Constable Adelaide Stratton in the 2016 trans-Atlantic mystery series '' Houdini & Doyle'' and as morality officer Mary Shaw in '' Frankie Drake Mysteries''. Alan Lidiard
Alan Bernard Lidiard (9 May 1928 – 21 November 2020), or A. B. Lidiard, was a British condensed matter physicist known for his research into defects in materials. Education and career Lidiard studied theoretical physics under Charles Coulson at King's College London, obtaining an MSc in 1950 and a PhD in 1952. He spent two years as a Fulbright scholar in the USA, first as a research assistant for Friedrich Seitz at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and then under Charles Kittel at University of California, Berkeley. He took up a research fellowship in the Theoretical Division at Atomic Energy Research Establishment in Harwell. Between 1957 and 1961, he was a Lecturer in Theoretical Physics at University of Reading. He returned to Harwell and set up the radiation damage theory group in the Theoretical Physics Division (TPD). Lidiard became the head of the TPD in 1966 until his retirement. Victoria Lidiard
Victoria Lidiard (23 December 1889 – 3 October 1992) was a British social activist, optician and Christian author, reputed to be the longest surviving suffragette in the UK. Lidiard campaigned for animal welfare, vegetarianism and the ordination of women. Biography Victoria Simmons was born on 23 December 1889 in Clifton, Bristol, part of a large family of 13 children. She was educated in a local Dame school, leaving at aged 14 to work in a photographic studio, whilst studying bookkeeping and shorthand in the evenings. With her mother and other of her sisters, and against her father's wishes, she joined the Women's Social and Political Union (WPSU) in 1907 after hearing Annie Kenney, WPSU's West of England organiser, speak. Simmons became a local activist, speaking on her own account, notably at Bristol Docks; selling ''Votes for Women'', the WPSU newspaper; and engaging in mild protest - chalking slogans around Clifton; and disrupting political meetings.
