The Library and Information Association of South Africa'' (LIASA) is a professional non-profit organization, representing all institutions and people working in libraries and information services in South Africa. . Purpose LIASA advocates and supports the provision of efficient, user-orientated and excellent library and information services that aspire to equitable access to information for all communities (literate and illiterate) in South Africa. It represents the interests of and promotes the development and image of libraries and information in South Africa, at a local, provincial and national level to government and other agencies. Nguni Languages
The Nguni languages are a group of closely related Bantu languages spoken in southern Africa by the Nguni peoples. Nguni languages include Xhosa, Zulu, Ndebele (sometimes referred to as "Northern Ndebele"), and Swazi. The appellation "Nguni" derives from the Nguni cattle type. ''Ngoni'' (see below) is an older, or a shifted, variant. It is sometimes argued that the use of ''Nguni'' as a generic label suggests a historical monolithic unity of the people in question, where in fact the situation may have been more complex. The linguistic use of the label (referring to a subgrouping of Bantu) is relatively stable. Ellen Tise
Ellen Remona Tise (born October 29, 1961) is a South African librarian, president of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) from 2009 to 2011, under the theme "Libraries Driving Access to Knowledge (A2K)". Her work has focused on library associations and the open access promoted from the library sector. Career Tise was the first president of the Library and Information Association of South Africa (LIASA), a position she held during the periods 2000–2002 and 1998–2000. Peter Johan Lor was Secretary General of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions, first National Librarian and Chief Executive Officer of the National Library of South Africa, a scholar of international librarianship, and a professor of librarianship. Career Lor was born in the Netherlands and emigrated to South Africa. He completed studies in Librarianship and Library Science at the University of Stellenbosch and the University of Pretoria in South Africa and at the University of Caen in France.
