Libertarian Syndicalist Union
The Libertarian Syndicalist Union (; ESE), is a Greek anarcho-syndicalist trade union confederation founded on 5 October 2003. Formerly a member of the International Workers' Association (IWA), it has been a member of the International Confederation of Labour (ICL) since 2018. It is one of the largest anarchist organisations in Greece. History The union was founded on 5 October 2003, after a congress that accepted its founding declaration. Initially, it participated in the International Libertarian Solidarity (ILS) while it was ongoing, while maintaining links with the International Workers' Association (IWA). The union is independent of any political party and is organized around local (or professional) assemblies based on the principle of direct democracy. Italian Syndicalist Union
The Italian Syndicalist Union (; USI) is an Italian anarcho-syndicalist trade union. Established in 1912 by a confederation of " houses of labour", the USI led a series of general strikes throughout its early years, culminating with the Red Week insurrection against the Italian entry into World War I. During the Biennio Rosso, the USI was at the forefront of the occupation of factories, which saw hundreds of workplaces throughout the country brought under the control of workers' councils. The USI also led the establishment of the International Workers' Association (IWA), which became the main international organisation of anarcho-syndicalist trade unions. After the rise of Italian fascism, the USI was banned and its members were either arrested, driven underground or forced into exile. Syndicalism is a labour movement within society that, through industrial unionism, seeks to unionize workers according to industry and advance their demands through Strike action, strikes and other forms of direct action, with the eventual goal of gaining control over the means of production and the economy at large through social ownership. Lucien van der Walt (born 8 September 1972) is a South African writer, professor of Sociology and labour educator. His research engages the anarchist/syndicalist tradition of Mikhail Bakunin and Peter Kropotkin; trade unionism and working class history, particularly in southern Africa; and neoliberal state restructuring. He currently teaches and researches at Rhodes University in the Eastern Cape, South Africa, and previously worked at the University of the Witwatersrand.
