Liberia Restoration Party
The Liberia Restoration Party (LRP) is a political party in Liberia. History The LRP was certified by the National Elections Commission on June 26, 2017. It is an off-shoot of Liberia Restoration to Christian Heritage, an organization centered around making Liberia into a Christian state. MacDella Cooper was the first standard bearer of the party, and the first presidential candidate. She was the only female presidential candidate in the 2017 election. Her running mate was William R. Slocum. Cooper supported Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) candidate George Weah in the subsequent run-off election. The LRP ran 37 candidates in the 2017 House of Representatives election, 11 of them being women. The party won no seats in the legislature. The LRP won no seats in the 2020 Senate election. Thomas Nimely
Thomas Yaya Nimely (born 1956) is a Liberian politician and former rebel leader who has served as a senator for Grand Gedeh County since 2024. During the Second Liberian Civil War, Nimely founded the Movement for Democracy in Liberia (MODEL) rebel group in opposition to president Charles Taylor. Following Taylor's overthrow in 2003, he served as foreign minister between 2005 and 2006 in the government of Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. He was elected to the Senate of Liberia during the 2023 Liberian general election as a member of the Liberia Restoration Party (LRP). General elections were held in Liberia on 10 October 2023 to elect the President of Liberia, President, House of Representatives of Liberia, House of Representatives and half of the Senate of Liberia, Senate. Incumbent president George Weah was eligible for a second term. No candidate won a majority in the first round, with Weah narrowly placing first over opposition leader Joseph Boakai, which meant both advanced to a runoff held on 14 November 2023. Tubmanburg
Tubmanburg, also known as Bomi and formerly known as Vaitown, is the capital of Bomi County in Liberia. It lies in the Bomi Hills northwest of Monrovia and was an iron ore and diamond mining centre until it was largely destroyed in the First Liberian Civil War. During the Second Liberian Civil War, it was the headquarters of the Liberians United for Reconciliation and Democracy rebel group. Most residents are members of the Vai tribe. A key attraction is Blue Lake, also known as Bomi Lake. Blue Lake is about 300 feet (about 100 m) deep. It is suspended midway between the peaks of the surrounding mountains which, with the sun’s reflection, give the lake its blue hue. The waters spring from a huge pit dug by the Liberia Mining Company, an American-owned company that ceased operations in the country because of the presumed depletion of iron ore in the area. Erol Madison Gwion Sr. (November 25, 1964December 4, 2023) was a Liberian politician. Biography Gwion was born on November 25, 1964. Gwion was a member of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC). In the 2021 by-election, Gwion contested the Grand Gedeh County #1 District seat in the House of Representatives of Liberia with the Liberia Restoration Party. In this election, he defeated the ruling party CDC candidate Jeremiah Garwo Sokan. In April 2022, Gwion established the District Development Council. He claimed to donate fifty percent of his salary to the organization, which sought, according to ''FrontPage Africa'', to contribute "to community empowerment and development". Grand Gedeh is a county in the eastern portion of the West African nation of Liberia. One of 15 counties that constitute the first-level of administrative division in the nation, it has three districts. Zwedru (formerly Tchien) serves as the capital of the county.
