Liberdade (district Of São Paulo)
Liberdade (, ''liberty''; ) is the name of a district in the subprefecture of Sé, in São Paulo, Brazil. Liberdade is known as a Japantown, although the Japanese presence did not occur throughout the neighborhood, but in specific streets. Japanese immigrants started settling in the region in 1912, coming from the interior of São Paulo, as many did not adapt to working on coffee farms and started looking for better opportunities in the capital. Even today, the neighborhood is famous for its typically Japanese restaurants and shops, as well as its oriental elites and signs in Japanese. Currently, the majority of Japanese people and their descendants no longer live in the neighborhood, only maintaining their commercial establishments in the region. With the departure of the Japanese, the region began to receive many Chinese and Korean immigrants. Instituto Liberdade do Rio Grande do Sul is a Brazilian independent think tank, formed by intellectual entrepreneurs, based in Porto Alegre. Instituto Liberdade is not endowed and does not accept government funding. Avenida Da Liberdade (Lisbon)
Avenida da Liberdade ( Portuguese for ''"Avenue of Liberty"'') is a boulevard in central Lisbon, Portugal. It ranks among the most expensive streets in Europe, with property costing over €9,000 per sqm. Originating in the '' Passeio Público'', an 18th-century park built for the Portuguese nobility, the avenue was constructed between 1879 and 1886. Marking the city's northward expansion during the 19th century, the former park was turned into a major boulevard. The Avenida da Liberdade is also home to numerous embassies and diplomatic missions. The Liberdade Street Fair (Portuguese: ''Feira de Arte e Artesanato da Liberdade'' or ''Feirinha da Liberdade'') is an art and handicraft fair in the Liberdade (district of São Paulo), Liberdade district of São Paulo. This popular open air market began in 1975 and operates every Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 6 pm near the Liberdade (São Paulo Metro), Liberdade Metro station. Liberdade Class Underwater Glider
Liberdade class blended wing bodies are autonomous underwater gliders developed by the US Navy Office of Naval Research which use a blended wing body hullform to achieve hydrodynamic efficiency. It is an experimental class whose models were originally intended to track quiet diesel electric submarines in littoral waters, moving at 1–3 knots and remaining on station for up to six months. ''Liberdade'' (Portuguese for "Liberty") was a ship built by Joshua Slocum, prior to the one he single-handedly piloted around the world. The "Liberdade" class are the world's largest known underwater gliders and were developed as part of the US Navy's Persistent Littoral Undersea Surveillance Network (PlusNet) system of unmanned surveillance vehicles. Liberdade (neighbourhood)
Liberdade is the second most populous district of Salvador, exceeded only by Cajazeiras. It is a center for Afro-Brazilian cultural institutions such as the Ilê Aiyê carnival block as well as the Carneiro Ribeiro Education Center. Avenida Liberdade (Brazil Highway)
The Avenida Liberdade is a four-lane highway currently being constructed in protected Amazon rainforest areas in preparation for the November 2025 COP30 climate summit in Belém, Brazil.
