Liberal Alliance (Greece)
The Liberal Alliance (FISY; , ', ΦΙ.ΣΥ.) was a liberal political party in Greece, founded in February 2007. Its stated purpose was to cover the political ground between what it considered to constitute a conservative New Democracy and the socialist PASOK. The highest organ in Liberal Alliance was its bi-annual congress, which elected a seven member Coordination Committee. The CC after that elected the President. Giorgos Kaminis
Georgios Kaminis (; born 15 July 1954) is a Greek American politician and professor of constitutional law. He was the Greek Ombudsman from April 2003 until September 2010 and Mayor of Athens from 2011 until 2019. Early life Giorgos Kaminis was born in New York City, where his father, Vasilis Kaminis was working at the time. He holds both Greek and American citizenship. At the age of five he left New York and moved to Athens. Education He studied at the Faculty of Law of the University of Athens, graduating in 1980. The Liberals (, ''Oi Fileleftheroi'') was a liberal political party in Greece founded by Stefanos Manos in April 1999. The president suspended operations of the party in October 2001, citing economic problems and limited appeal amongst the voting public. History The party participated independently in popular elections only once, in the 1999 European Parliament elections, gaining 1.72% of the popular vote. In the 2000 national elections, Stefanos Manos and the Liberals entered the Parliament cooperating with New Democracy. Fotis Tefos Perlikos (; born 1979) was the president of Liberal Alliance, a small political party in Greece formed in 2007. Biography Perlikos was born in Piraeus, Greece. He has lived in Profitou Ilia, Nea Smirni, Paleo Faliro, and Kallithea, all areas of Athens, Greece. He studied medicine and is now employed as a medical doctor in Sotiria Hospital. He claims to be a normal everyday citizen, not a professional politician, and not rich. Political views According to his writings, he started his exploration in more-or-less left-oriented politics. May 2023 Greek Legislative Election
Snap parliamentary elections were held in Greece on 21 May 2023. All 300 seats in the Hellenic Parliament were contested. They were the first elections since 1990 not to be held under a bonus seats system, due to amendments to the electoral law made in 2016. Instead, a purely proportional system was used. The New Democracy (Greece), New Democracy of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis achieved an unexpected victory defying the opinion polls and winning a plurality. The electoral threshold, or election threshold, is the minimum share of votes that a candidate or political party requires before they become entitled to representation or additional seats in a legislature. Parliamentary elections were held in Greece on Sunday, 17 June 2012, to elect all 300 members to the Hellenic Parliament in accordance with the constitution, after all attempts to form a new government failed following the May elections. If all attempts to form a new government fail, the constitution directs the president to dissolve a newly elected parliament, and then to call for new parliamentary elections within 30 days of the dissolution. The president announced at 16 May the date for the new election, and signed the formal decree to dissolve the parliament and call for the election at 19 May.
