Lianella Carell
Lianella Carell (6 May 1927 – 22 December 2000) was an Italian film actress and screenwriter. She appeared in 18 films between 1948 and 1958. She is best known for playing Maria Ricci, the wife of the protagonist in the 1948 film ''Bicycle Thieves'', which was also her acting debut. Career Originally a writer, playwright and journalist, Carell knew Vittorio De Sica during an interview she made for a radio program; at the time De Sica was looking for a non-professional cast for ''Bicycle Thieves'', and particularly for the female lead. The role of Maria gave Carell critical acclaim, and brought her several main roles for about a decade. Dissatisfied with her career, she eventually retired from acting in 1958 to focus on a career as a screenwriter and television writer. Alberto De Martino (12 June 1929 – 2 June 2015) was an Italian film director and screenwriter. Born in Rome, De Martino started as a child actor and later returned to the cinema where worked as a screenwriter, director and dubbing supervisor. De Martino's films as a director specialised in well-crafted knock-offs of Hollywood hit films. These films were specifically created films in Western, horror and mythology genres which were developed for the international market. ''The Daily Telegraph, The Telegraph'' stated that his best known of these film was probably ''The Antichrist (film), The Antichrist''. Alessandro Blasetti
Alessandro Blasetti (3 July 1900 – 1 February 1987) was an Italian film director and screenwriter who influenced Italian neorealism with the film ''Four Steps in the Clouds''. Blasetti was one of the leading figures in Italian cinema during the Fascist era. He is sometimes known as the "father of Italian cinema" because of his role in reviving the struggling industry in the late 1920s. Early life Blasetti was born in Rome, where he also died. After studying law at university, Blasetti chose to become a journalist and film critic. He worked for several film magazines and led a campaign for national film production, which had largely ceased by this point.
