Liam Doyle (hurler)
Liam Doyle (born 1968) is an Irish hurling coach and former player. At club level he played with Bodyke and at inter-county level with the Clare senior hurling team. Doyle later served as a manager and selector. Playing career Doyle first appeared on the inter-county scene with Clare as goalkeeper on the minor team in 1986. He later spent three successive years with the under-21 team. Doyle was drafted onto the senior team in 1989 and played for a number of seasons before drifting away in 1991. Doyle's inter-county career was restarted in 1993 when, as part of the Clare junior team, he won an All-Ireland JHC medal after a defeat of Kilkenny in the final. He was recalled to the senior team for the 1993–94 league. Doyle was part of the Clare team that bridged a 63-year gap to win the Munster SHC title in 1995. Bodyke GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the village of Bodyke in East Clare, Ireland. The club fields teams exclusively in hurling competitions. Clare Intermediate Hurling Championship
The Clare Intermediate Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition organised by the Clare County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association for the second tier hurling teams in the county of Clare in Ireland. The series of games are played during the summer and autumn months with the county final currently being played at Cusack Park. The championship includes a group stage which is followed by a knock-out phase for the top teams. There is also promotion involving the Clare Senior Hurling Championship and relegation involving the Clare Junior Hurling Championship. In 2012 it was decided that from 2014 onwards the Clare Senior Hurling Championship would become a single sixteen team championship. This meant that five clubs would lose their senior status and be relegated down to intermediate. 1997 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
The All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship of 1997 (known for sponsorship reasons as the Guinness Hurling Championship 1997) was the 111th staging of Ireland's premier hurling competition. Clare won the championship, beating Tipperary 0-20 to 2-13 in the final at Croke Park, Dublin. Pre-championship The 'back-door' system Since its inception in 1887 the championship had been played on a straight knock-out basis. If any team was defeated at any stage of the provincial or All-Ireland competitions it meant automatic elimination. This system was deemed the fairest as the All-Ireland champions would always be the team who won all of their games. There were some problems with this system. The All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship of 1995 (known for the first time for sponsorship reasons as the Guinness Hurling Championship 1995) was the 109th staging of Ireland's premier hurling knock-out competition. Clare won the championship, beating Offaly 1-13 to 2-8 in the final at Croke Park, Dublin, it was their first All-Ireland win since 1914. Ger O'Loughlin
Ger 'Sparrow' O'Loughlin (born 5 September 1967 in Clarecastle, County Clare, Ireland) is an Irish former hurling manager and former player. An effective forward, O'Loughlin enjoyed a successful playing career at club level with Clarecastle and at inter-county level with Clare. He was a key member of the latter team during the 'golden age' of the 1990s and collected two All-Ireland titles and three Munster titles in the space of four years. After a successful spell as manager of his native club Clarecastle, O'Loughlin took charge of the Adare club in Limerick. During his term the club captured three club championship titles in-a-row. O'Loughlin's tenure as manager of the Clare senior team last from 2009 until 2011 and ended without any success. In some team sports, a selector is a member of a selection panel which chooses teams or individuals to represent a country or club or other representative team in sporting competitions. For example, a selector in cricket is an administrative position involved in choosing players to represent a particular team in a match. Sixmilebridge GAA
Sixmilebridge is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Sixmilebridge, County Clare, Ireland. History Sixmilebridge GAA Club was founded in 1904. The first recorded matches were at junior hurling and football level against Newmarket-on-Fergus with the hurlers winning and the footballers losing 2–07 to 0–02. The first recorded championship success was in 1940. Kilkishen were defeated in the Clare Intermediate Hurling Championship by Newmarket-on-Fergus. A further ten years elapsed before Sixmilebridge won the Clare Junior A Hurling Championship. In 1951 they won the Clare Intermediate Hurling Championship beating Ennis Dalcassians in the final. The following year the Bridge reached the county senior final only to be beaten by Scariff. In 1954 Sixmilebridge won their first ever senior trophy winning the Clare Cup against Newmarket-on-Fergus on a scoreline of 4-06 to 2-06. Liam Sheedy
Liam is a short form of the Irish name Uilliam or the old Germanic name William. Etymology The original name was a merging of two Old German elements: ''willa'' ("will" or "resolution"); and ''helma'' ("helmet"). The juxtaposition of these elements effectively means "helmet of will" or "guardian". When the Frankish Empire was divided, the name developed differently in each region. Smith O'Brien's GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the parish of Killaloe, County Clare in Ireland. The club field teams in hurling competitions. The club won the first ever Clare senior hurling championship in 1887. Smith O’Brien’s won the 2004 Clare Intermediate hurling championship, beating favourites Clooney Quin in a replay. Railway Cup
The GAA Interprovincial Championship ( ga, An Corn Idir-Chúigeach) or Railway Cup (''Corn an Iarnróid'') is the name of two annual Gaelic football and hurling competitions held between the provinces of Ireland. The Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster GAA teams are composed of the best players from the counties in each province. The games are organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. The Railway Cup was a revival of the Railway Shield which ran from 1905 to 1907 (football) and from 1905 to 1908 (hurling).
