Li Cheng (painter)
Li Cheng (; 919–967), courtesy name Xiánxī (咸熙), was a Chinese painter of the Song dynasty. He was influenced by Jing Hao and Juran. Li Cheng, Fan Kuan, and Guan Tong became known as the "three great rival artists". Life Li Cheng lived in Qingzhou (now part of Weifang, Shandong) during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period and the early Song dynasty. He came from a family distinguished by scholarship and official conduct. His grandfather lived during the Huang Chao Rebellion of the 870s, and eventually the family fled during the tumultuous end period of the Tang dynasty. He learned painting from Jing Hao and Guan Tong before turning to focus on nature and developing his own style. He was also a poet and literary stylist, but regarded these as secondary endeavors, and he did not seek government office. Many nobles sought out Li Cheng's services, but he never accepted. Li Cheng (李程) (c. 766? - 842?), courtesy name Biaochen (表臣), formally Duke Miu of Pengyuan (彭原繆公), was an official of the Chinese Tang dynasty, serving as a chancellor during the reign of Emperor Jingzong. Background Li Cheng was probably born in about 766. He was a fifth-generation descendant of Li Shenfu (李神符) the Prince of Xiangyi, who was a cousin of the Tang dynasty's founding emperor Emperor Gaozu.''New Book of Tang'', vol. 131. His grandfather Li Bo (李柏) served as the minister of husbandry, and his father Li Su (李鷫) served as a prefectural prefect. Hồ Nguyên Trừng (chữ Hán: 胡元澄, pinyin: Hu Yuancheng; also known as Lê Trừng, ; courtesy name Mạnh Nguyên; 1374–1446) was a Vietnamese scholar, official, and engineer. Cheng Li (, born 1956) is a Chinese-American scholar specializing in Chinese elite politics and contemporary Chinese society; he served as the director of the John L. Thornton China Center at the Brookings Institution from 2014 to 2023, replacing Kenneth Lieberthal in the role. He is currently professor of political science and founding director of the Centre on Contemporary China and the World (CCCW) at the University of Hong Kong.
