The Lexton Plains Football League was an Australian rules football competition in western Victoria, Australia. The league ran an annual competition from 1999 to 2010. History The Western Plains FL was formed in 1930 and the Lexton FL was formed in 1945. In 1999, The Lexton Football League and the Western Plains Football League merged to form the Lexton Plains FL. The league folded after the 2010 season, with the last grand final being postponed due to the flooding isolating clubs scheduled to play. Navarre, Natte-Bealiba and Lexton joined the Maryborough Castlemaine District Football League, the Ararat Eagles joined the Mininera & District Football League and the four other clubs joined the Central Highlands Football League The Central Highlands Football League is an Australian Rules Football League in the Ballarat region. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. This is a minor league with clubs coming from towns near the regional centres of Maryborough, and Castlemaine. History The ''Maryborough District Football League'' was formed prior to 1914. It absorbed a number of clubs from the ''Castlemaine District Football League'', when that competition ceased in 1952. Mininera & District Football League
The Mininera & District Football League is based in South-western Victoria, with clubs located east of Hamilton, south of Ararat and west of Colac. The league absorbed several teams from the defunct Ararat & District Football Association in 2000. History The Mininera & District Football Association formed in 1925. In the early 1950s, eight clubs participated: Carranballac, Glenthompson, Lake Bolac, Mininera-Westmere Rovers, Streatham, Tatyoon, Wickliffe and Willaura. In 1954, Mininera-Westmere Rovers merged with Streatham to form the SMW Rovers, and Dunkeld and Woorndoo entered the competition.
