Lex Brown (artist)
Lex Brown (born 1989) is an American video and performance artist. Brown's performance work deals with self-reflection, politics, and design. Brown has shown work at the New Museum, The Kitchen, The High Line, Socrates Sculpture Park and International Center for Photography in New York City, the Antenna Gallery in New Orleans, Louisiana, and VIA Music Festival in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as part of their Women in Sound series. Early life and education Brown was born in Oakland, California. She grew up in Northern Virginia and attended Princeton University for her A.B. in visual art and archaeology where she graduated summa cum laude. Brown received her M.F.A. at the Yale University sculpture program. New Museum
The New Museum of Contemporary Art is a museum at 235 Bowery, on the Lower East Side of Manhattan in New York City. It was founded in 1977 by Marcia Tucker. History The museum originally opened in a space in the Graduate Center of the then-named New School for Social Research at 65 Fifth Avenue. The New Museum remained there until 1983, when it rented and moved to the first two and a half floors of the Astor Building at 583 Broadway in the SoHo neighborhood. In 1999, Marcia Tucker was succeeded as director by Lisa Phillips, previously the curator of contemporary art at the Whitney Museum of American Art. The American Academy in Rome is a research and arts institution located on the Gianicolo in Rome, Italy. The academy is a member of the Council of American Overseas Research Centers. History 19th century In 1893, a group of American architects, painters and sculptors met regularly while planning the fine arts section of the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. The group discussed the idea of forming an American school for artists in Europe as a place for American artists to study and further their skills. Led by Charles Follen McKim, Charles F. McKim of architectural practice McKim, Mead & White, they decided that Rome, which they considered a veritable museum of masterpieces of painting, sculpture and architecture throughout the ages, would be the best location for the school. Badlands Unlimited was a New York-based independent publisher founded by the artist Paul Chan in 2010. The press published texts by and with other artists in the form of paperbacks, ebooks, digital group exhibitions, a stone book, and other various media. The press also consulted on projects related to digital publishing for art institutions. As of late 2019, Badlands Unlimited has "closed for good".
