Levites ( ; ) or Levi are Jewish males who claim patrilineal descent from the Tribe of Levi. The Tribe of Levi descended from Levi, the third son of Jacob and Leah. The surname ''Halevi'', which consists of the Hebrew definite article "" ''Ha-'' ('the') plus ''Levi'' ('Levite'), is not conclusive regarding being a Levite; a titular use of HaLevi indicates being a Levite. George Levinger
George Levinger (1927–2017) was Professor of Psychology at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. Born in Berlin, Germany, he fled the Nazi regime with his Jewish family in 1935, first moving to Switzerland and then to London, before emigrating to the United States in 1941. He received his B.A. from Columbia University in 1946. After his army service in Tokyo and time in the import-export business, he received a 1951 M.A. in clinical psychology from the University of California, Berkeley and a 1955 Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of Michigan. Matthew Levinger
Matthew Levinger (born 1960) is an American historian. He is Research Professor of International Affairs and Director of the National Security Studies Program at the George Washington University Elliott School of International Affairs. Levinger received a B.A. (1983) from Haverford College and an M.A. and Ph.D. (1992) in History from the University of Chicago. He taught at the Hackley School in Tarrytown, NY (1983–85) and was lecturer at Stanford University (1991–94). He was Assistant (1994-2000) and Associate (2000-2005) Professor of History at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon. Moshe Levinger
Moshe Levinger (‎; 1935 – May 16, 2015) was an Israeli Religious Zionist activist and an Orthodox Rabbi who, since 1967, had been a leading figure in the movement to settle Jews in the territories occupied by Israel during the 1967 Six-Day War. He is especially known for leading Jewish settlement in Hebron in 1968, and for being one of the principals of the now defunct settler movement Gush Emunim, founded in 1974, among whose ranks he assumed legendary status. Levinger was reportedly involved in violent acts against Palestinians. Early years Levinger was born in Jerusalem in 1935, and studied at Kfar HaRoeh Yeshiva and the Mercaz HaRav yeshiva in Jerusalem under the guidance of Rabbi Zvi Yehuda Kook. Shlomo Levinger (born ) is an American magician and mentalist. He has performed internationally and for major-league baseball teams, and also posts videos of his performances online. Life and career Levinger grew up in Queens, New York. He was a baseball fan and he studied at Yeshiva Ketana of Queens and Tiferes Moshe for elementary school, followed by Yeshivas Chofetz Chaim for high school.
