Lev Septytskyi
Leo Sheptycki (born as Leon Ludwik Szeptycki; pl, link=no, Leon Ludwik Szeptycki; 23 August 1717 – 13 May 1779) was the " Metropolitan of Kiev, Galicia and all Ruthenia" On 14 May 1749 Sheptycki was ordained by bishop of Luck Theodosius Rudnicki-Lubieniecki with help of Theodosius Godebski and Adam Oranski as a bishop of Lwow. On 20 December 1762 he was confirmed as the Coadjutor Metropolitan bishop of Kiev, Galicia, and all Ruthenia. On 1 February 1778 he succeeded Metropolitan Philip. He consecrated following bishops Gedeon Horbacki, and Athanasius Szeptycki. Jason Smogorzewski
Jason Smogorzewski (born as Jan Smogorzewski; pl, link=no, Jason Junosza Smogorzewski; 3 May 1715 – 27 September 1788) was the " Metropolitan of Kiev, Galicia and all Ruthenia". He became the first ethnic Polish who headed the Ruthenian Church. Smogorzewski became the first metropolitan to be elected and confirmed following the Russian annexation of Polotsk where he was archbishop. In 1731 he joined the Order of Basilians and changed from Latin-rite to Byzantine-rite. On 31 December 1758 Smogorzewski was ordained by archbishop of Durrës Joseph Schiro (Albanian Greek Catholic Church) as a coadjutor archbishop of Polock becoming a vicar bishop of Vitebsk. On 18 July 1762 he succeeded archbishop Florian Hrebnicki. Following the death of Leo Szeptycki on 24 May 1779, Smogorzewski served as the administrator of the metropolis. Szeptycki Family
Szeptycki (in Polish spelling; or (Sheptytsky) in Ukrainian spelling) was a major noble family in Ruthenia (Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, later Austria-Hungary, Poland and Ukraine). They used the Szeptycki coat of arms. The family was related to a number of other noble families, such as the Wiśniowiecki family, the Ledóchowski family and the Fredro family. The family history dates to the 15th century in the Ruthenian Voivodeship of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, with a document from 1469, issued by King of Poland, Casimir Jagiellon, confirming the family's right to Szeptyce (today Sheptychi, Ukraine). Originally Eastern Orthodox, some time after 1596 the family joined the Greek Catholic Church following the Union of Brest. The Metropolis of Kiev, Galicia and all Ruthenia was an ecclesiastical territory or archdiocese (archeparchy) of the Ruthenian Uniate Church, a particular Eastern Catholic Church. It was erected in the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth in 1595/96 following the Union of Brest. It was effectively disestablished by the partitions of Poland (1772–1795). Its successor — the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church — continues to operate in the modern states of Ukraine and Poland. The first metropolitan was Michael Rohoza.
