Josh Nelson
Josh Nelson is an American jazz pianist and composer. Nelson produced his independent debut album '' First Stories'' at age 19. His second album, ''Anticipation'', was released in 2004 with all his compositions. In 2007, Nelson signed with the jazz label Native Language Music and released his third album, ''Let It Go'', with guests Seamus Blake, Sara Gazarek, and Anthony Wilson. His fourth album, ''I Hear a Rhapsody'', was released in 2009 with Nelson's compositions, interpretations of standards, and reinventions of rock songs. In 2011, he released his fifth album, '' Discoveries'', which was influenced by the writings of Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, and Nikola Tesla. Nelson has worked with Jeff Hamilton, Peter Erskine, and Sara Gazarek, for whom he was written songs and serves as musical director He toured worldwide with vocalist Natalie Cole. Anthony Wilson (musician)
Anthony Wilson (born May 9, 1968) is an American jazz guitarist, arranger and composer. He is the son of bandleader Gerald Wilson. Education and career Born in Los Angeles on May 9, 1968, Wilson received his degree in music composition from Bennington College. He counts Duke Ellington, Gil Evans, Wes Montgomery, Ry Cooder, and T-Bone Walker among his influences. His first album '' Anthony Wilson'' was nominated for a Grammy Award and his second album, ''Goat Hill Junket'' (1998) also received praise. Albums with his nine-piece band include ''Adult Themes'' ( MAMA, 1999) and ''Power of Nine'' (Groove Note, 2006). Diana Krall and mandolinist Eva Scow appear on the latter. Sara Gazarek
Sara Gazarek is an American jazz singer from Seattle. Life and career Gazarek was born in Seattle, Washington and moved to Los Angeles in 2000 to attend the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California. In college her teachers included Carmen Bradford, John Clayton, and Tierney Sutton. Clayton produced her first album, ''Yours'' (2005). The album was a critical and commercial success with a top ten ranking in the ''Billboard'' Traditional Jazz Charts as well as being the top album download in iTunes for Jazz in Germany and France. Clayton also produced her second album, ''Return to You'' (2007). She recorded ''Where Time Stands Still'' (2010) with the German band Triosence. Seamus Blake
Seamus Blake (born December 8, 1970) is a British-born Canadian tenor saxophonist. Early life and education Blake was born in London, England and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. His mother introduced him to jazz when he was a child and he later attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Career Upon graduation, he moved to New York City. In February 2002, he won the Thelonious Monk International Saxophone Competition. He currently plays with his own quintet (featuring David Kikoski, Lage Lund, Bill Stewart, and Matt Clohesy) and has been a regular with the Mingus Big Band as well as many other New York musicians. Bruce Johnston
Bruce Arthur Johnston (born Benjamin Baldwin; June 27, 1942) is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer who is a member of the Beach Boys. Johnston also collaborated on many records with Terry Melcher (his bandmate in Bruce & Terry, the Rip Chords, and California Music) and composed the 1975 Barry Manilow hit, " I Write the Songs". Born in Illinois, Johnston grew up in Los Angeles and studied classical piano in his early years. While in high school, he arranged and played on his first hit record, Sandy Nelson's "Teen Beat" (1959), and also worked with musicians such as Kim Fowley and Phil Spector. One of Johnston's first gigs was as a member of the surf band the Gamblers before becoming a staff producer at Columbia Records. In 1965, Johnston joined the Beach Boys for live performances, initially filling in for the group's co-founder Brian Wilson. Jazz
Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with its roots in blues and ragtime. Since the 1920s Jazz Age, it has been recognized as a major form of musical expression in traditional and popular music. Edward Heyman
Edward Heyman (March 14, 1907October 16, 1981) was an American lyricist and producer, best known for his lyrics to " Body and Soul," " When I Fall in Love," and " For Sentimental Reasons." He also contributed to a number of songs for films. Biography Heyman studied at the University of Michigan where he had an early start on his career writing college musicals. "Love Letters" is a 1945 popular song with lyrics by Edward Heyman and music by Victor Young. The song appeared, without lyrics, in the movie of the same name performed by Dick Haymes, and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1945 but lost out to "It Might as Well Be Spring". The song has been covered by a number of artists, most notably by Nat King Cole (1957), Ketty Lester (1961), Elvis Presley (1966), and Alison Moyet (1987).
