Lesterps (''L'Esterp'' in Limousin, an Occitan dialect) is a commune in the Charente department in southwestern France. The inhabitants are called ''Lesterrois'' and ''Lesterroises''. Geography Lesterps is located in Charente Limousin, in the north-east of the Charente department and borders Haute-Vienne. The village of Lesterps, 9 km east of Confolens, is a major market town. It is 16 km from Chabanais, 17 km from Saint-Junien, 42 km from Limoges and 63 km from Angoulême. The town is well served by roads. The D30, from Confolens to Limoges via Saint-Junien, crosses it from west to east, and the D29, from Saulgond to Brillac, crosses it from south to north. The D82 east of the village goes to Limoges via Saint-Christophe. The nearest train station is Chabanais, served by TER to Angoulême and Limoges. It is located 14 km from Confolens and 67 km northeast of Angoulême . Limousin (dialect)
Limousin (French name, ; oc, lemosin, ) is a dialect of the Occitan language, spoken in the three departments of Limousin, parts of Charente and the Dordogne in the southwest of France. The first Occitan documents are in an early form of this dialect, particularly the '' Boecis'', written around the year 1000. Limousin is used primarily by people over age 50 in rural communities. All speakers speak French as a first or second language. Due to the French single language policy, it is not recognised by the government and therefore considered endangered by the linguistic community. A revivalist movement around the Félibrige and the Institut d'Estudis Occitans is active in Limousin (as well as in other parts of Occitania). Chabanais (; oc, Chabanès) is a commune in the Charente department in southwestern France. Geography The river Vienne passes through Chabanais. The village is located in the Rochechouart impact structure. The ancient asteroid impact crater associated with it has eroded away and is no longer visible. Located in the heart of the Charente, Chabanais is 42 km west of Limoges, 50 km northeast of Angoulême, 77 km north of Périgueux and 84 km southeast of Poitiers. The town is small enough to be considered a large village and it boasts an open-air market every Thursday, adding to a number of small, privately owned shops. Saint-Junien (; oc, Sent Junian) is a commune in the Haute-Vienne department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in west-central France. Its sister city is Jumet, Belgium. History The history of Saint-Junien began in AD 500, when an ascetic of Hungarian origin, Saint Amand, chose to live on the north bank of the Vienne River at a place called Comodoliac. Ruricius, bishop of Limoges, offered him a humble cell. At this time, Junian (Junien), originally from the north of France and son of a Count of Cambrai, left his family at the age of 15 and became a disciple of Saint Amand. It is said that Junian knocked on the door of Amand, who did not answer. Junian had to sleep outside, and the snow miraculously spared him during the night.
