Lester Levy
Lester Levy (born 1954) is a South African-born New Zealand business leader, professor, and medical doctor. Since 2019, he has been Professor of Digital Health Leadership at Auckland University of Technology. Levy is a prominent figure in health governance in New Zealand. He was chair of the three Auckland region district health boards between 2009 and 2017. In May 2024, he was appointed chair of the Health New Zealand board and, after the board was disestablished in July, the commissioner of Health New Zealand for a twelve-month term. Early life and education Levy grew up in a small town near Sharpeville, South Africa. He was six years old when the Sharpeville massacre occurred. District Health Board
District health boards (DHBs) in New Zealand were organisations established by the New Zealand Public Health and Disability Act 2000 under the Fifth Labour Government of New Zealand, Fifth Labour Government, responsible for ensuring the provision of Healthcare in New Zealand, health and Disability in New Zealand, disability services to populations within a defined geographical area. They existed from 1 January 2001, when the act came into force, to 30 June 2022. Dame Karen Olive Poutasi (née Davidson; born 12 July 1949) is a New Zealand government official. Early life, education and family Poutasi was born in Ranfurly on 12 July 1949, and is the daughter of Gladys Enid Davidson (née Edmonds) and John Davidson. She was educated at Gore High School between 1963 and 1967, completed medical training at the University of Otago, and studied management at Otago and at Harvard University. In 1972, she married Reverend Samelu Faapoi Poutasi, and the couple went on to have four children. Her husband was the chaplain of Wellington Hospital. Career In 1984 Poutasi was the deputy medical superintendent at Dunedin Hospital. She was awarded a Harkness Fellowship to study public health administration, health policies, and the quality of health care in the United States. Shane Raymond Reti (born 5 June 1963) is a New Zealand politician and a member of the New Zealand House of Representatives, and a Cabinet Minister with the roles of Minister for Pacific Peoples, Minister of Science, Innovation, and Technology, Minister of Universities and Minister of Statistics.
