Lesmahagow Junior Football Club is a Scottish Association football, football club based in the town of Lesmahagow, South Lanarkshire, located just off the M74 motorway approximately 25 miles south of Glasgow. Early Clubs Before the formation of the current club, three other clubs from Lesmahagow had played in the Junior grade for at least some of their history: Nethanvale Swifts Nethanvale Swifts were formed after a meeting held in the village on 23 September 1885, although it appears that their first match wasn't until New Year's Day 1886. They entered a short period of inactivity sometime after May 1890, before being ‘resurrected’ in February 1891 and joining the Lanarkshire Junior League for the 1891–92 season. By December 1891, they had left the league having lost the three games they had played (conceding 29 goals and scoring 3 in the process) and failing to turn up for another. Scottish Junior Cup
The Scottish Junior Cup is an annual football competition organised by the Scottish Junior Football Association. The competition has been held every year since the inception of the SJFA in 1886 and, as of the 2022–23 edition, 108 teams compete in the tournament. The cup has an unseeded knockout format with semi-finals over two legs and the final played at a neutral venue, always that of an SPFL club. Since the 2006–07 season, the winner of the Junior Cup Final has qualified for the following season's senior Scottish Cup. The competition is named the Macron Scottish Cup for sponsorship reasons. Auchinleck Talbot are the current holders, after defeating Yoker Athletic 2–0 on 4 June 2022 at Rugby Park, Kilmarnock. Lesmahagow ( ; sco, Lismahagie or ''Lesmahagae'', gd, Lios MoChuda) is a small town in the historic county of Lanarkshire on the edge of moorland, near Lanark in the central belt of Scotland. Lesmahagow was also a civil parish. It lies west of the M74, and southeast of Kirkmuirhill. It is also known as Abbey Green or the Gow. Etymology The name means "Enclosure (meaning a walled area, like a monastery or fort) of St Machutus". The saint was born in Wales and may originally have been known as ''"Mahagw"'' prior to emigrating to Brittany where he became known by the Latinised form of the name and also as "St Malo". The West of Scotland Football League (WoSFL) is a senior football league based in the west of Scotland. The league sits at levels 6–10 on the Scottish football league system, acting as a feeder to the Lowland Football League. Founded in 2020, it is currently composed of 79 member clubs competing in five divisions.
