Lesley Gill
Lesley Gill is an author and a professor of anthropology at Vanderbilt University. Her research focusses on political violence, gender, free market reforms and human rights in Latin America, especially Bolivia. She also writes about the military training that takes place at the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation, School of the Americas and has campaigned for its closure. She has campaigned with Witness for Peace. Education and work Gill has a B.A. from Macalester College (1977), and an M.A. (1978), M.Phil. (1980) and Ph.D. (1984) from Columbia University. She was a visiting fellow at the University of East Anglia from 1984 to 1985. Formerly at the American University in Washington, she moved in 2008 to Vanderbilt to chair the Department of Anthropology. Anthropology
Anthropology is the scientific study of humanity, concerned with human behavior, human biology, cultures, society, societies, and linguistics, in both the present and past, including archaic humans. Social anthropology studies patterns of behaviour, while cultural anthropology studies cultural meaning, including norms and values. The term sociocultural anthropology is commonly used today. Linguistic anthropology studies how language influences social life. Biological anthropology, Biological (or physical) anthropology studies the biology and evolution of Human evolution, humans and their close primate relatives. A year is a unit of time based on how long it takes the Earth to orbit the Sun. In scientific use, the tropical year (approximately 365 solar days, 5 hours, 48 minutes, 45 seconds) and the sidereal year (about 20 minutes longer) are more exact.
