Sherbrooke ( , ) is a city in southern Quebec, Canada. It is at the confluence of the Saint-François River, Saint-François and Magog River, Magog rivers in the heart of the Estrie administrative region. Sherbrooke is also the name of a territory equivalent to a regional county municipality (TE) and Census geographic units of Canada, census division (CD) of Quebec, coextensive with the city of Sherbrooke. La Poupée Qui Fait Non
"La Poupée qui fait non" ("The Doll Who Says No") is a 1966 song written by Franck Gérald (lyrics) and French singer/songwriter Michel Polnareff (music). It was recorded by Polnareff, becoming an immediate success in France and one of Polnareff most definitive songs. Jimmy Page played guitar on the recording. It also appeared as the last track in his album '' Love Me, Please Love Me''. Polnareff also made language versions of the song in German ("Meine Puppe sagt non"), Italian ("Una bambolina che fa no, no, no"), and Spanish ("Muñeca que hace no") which helped the song get airplay all over Europe and become hits in language versions by local artists in 1966. There have been tens of covers of the song in English and various languages in the following decades. Michel Polnareff
Michel Polnareff (born 3 July 1944) is a French singer-songwriter who rose to prominence in the 1960s. He is noted for integrating rock and pop elements into his early work. He wrote pop hits such as "La Poupée qui fait non" and "Love Me, Please Love Me." Over the years his music has incorporated classical and electronic styles. Known for his distinctive appearance and stage presence, Polnareff is a notable figure in French pop music. Early life and education Michel Polnareff's mother, Simonne Lane, was a Breton dancer, and his father, Leib Polnareff, who was of Ukrainian Jewish heritage, worked with Édith Piaf. Them (band)
Them were a Northern Irish rock band formed in Belfast, in April 1964, most prominently known for their 1964 garage rock standard "Gloria (Them song), Gloria" and launching Van Morrison's musical career. The original five-member band consisted of Morrison, Alan Henderson, Ronnie Milling, Billy Harrison, and Eric Wrixon. Them scored two UK hits in 1965 with "Baby, Please Don't Go" (UK No. 10) and "Here Comes the Night" (UK No. 2; Ireland No. 2). The latter song and "Mystic Eyes" were top 40 hits in the US. Morrison quit the band in 1966 and went on to a successful career as a solo artist. "Leave Me Be" (also recorded as "You'd Better Leave Me Be") is a song by the English rock band the Zombies. Written by Chris White (musician), Chris White, the band's bass guitarist, "Leave Me Be" was released on a non-album single in October1964. Following the release of the band's debut Single (music), single "She's Not There" in July 1964, White wrote a handful of songs in between performances during the band's heavy schedule. Most of the work on the song occurred in August 1964, when the Zombies recorded both a Demo (music), demo and the backing track for it. The instrumentation largely differs from both earlier and later Zombies records; it features electric organ played by Rod Argent, compared to his previous usage of the electric piano. The Zombies are an English Rock music, rock band formed in St Albans in 1961. Led by keyboardist/vocalist Rod Argent and lead vocalist Colin Blunstone, the group had their first British and American hit in 1964 with "She's Not There". In the US, two further singles—"Tell Her No" in 1965 and "Time of the Season" in 1968—were also successful. CHLT-DT (channel 7) is a television station in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada, broadcasting the French-language network TVA. Owned and operated by Groupe TVA, the station maintains studios on Rue King Ouest (near Route 112) in Sherbrooke and a transmitter in Orford, Quebec. History The station went on the air for the first time on August 12, 1956. It was owned by , the city's major newspaper, along with CHLT radio. Like most television stations in Quebec, it was a dual affiliate of both CBC and Radio-Canada. "La Bamba" () is a Mexican folk song, originally from the state of Veracruz, also known as "La Bomba". The song is best known from a 1958 adaptation by Ritchie Valens, a top 40 hit on the U.S. charts. Valens's version is ranked number 345 on ''Rolling Stone'' magazine's list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time" and is the only song on the list not written or sung in English.
