Les Simpson
Hugh Leslie Simpson CBE (3 October 1894 – 7 June 1968) was an Australian farmer and soldier-settlement administrator. Simpson was born at Birchip in Victoria to bookseller Albert Edward Simpson and Ellen, ''née'' Campbell. He attended local state schools and received his secondary education at Ballarat and Stawell before working on the family farm. During World War I he enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (30 June 1915), serving on the Western Front in the 5th Battalion from March 1916. A lieutenant, he was badly wounded in August 1918. After the war he returned to farming and on 1 March 1924 married nurse Barbara Catherine Jane Catto at St Kilda. In 1934 Simpson was elected chief president of the Victorian Wheatgrowers' Association and the following year won the equivalent position in the federal body, serving until 1936. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding valuable service in a wide range of useful activities. Division Of Wimmera
The Division of Wimmera was an Divisions of the Australian House of Representatives, Australian electoral division in the states and territories of Australia, state of Victoria (Australia), Victoria. It was named after the Wimmera, Wimmera region in which it was partially located. The division was proclaimed in 1900, and was one of the List of Australian electorates contested at every election, original 65 divisions to be contested at the 1901 Australian federal election, first federal election. It originally encompassed Mildura, Swan Hill and Warracknabeal. In 1949, the Division of Mallee took the seat's northern area. Cobden, Victoria
Cobden is a town located 200 kilometres southwest of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia named in honour of Richard Cobden. At the 2006 census, Cobden had a population of 1,813. At the 2001 census, Cobden had a population of 1,419. History The Cobden area was settled by Europeans in the 1840s by Dr. Daniel Curdie, (1814–1884) a medical doctor from the Isle of Arran, Scotland, who was beloved by local Aboriginal warriors (who had settled there aeons before) for his habit of tending their wounds after tribal skirmishes. In 1840 he settled in the Heytesbury forest area on a small creek not far from where the present day Cobden lies. Dr. Curdie, so overcome by its beauty, christened the area Lovely Banks. When the town was surveyed in 1861 the area had to be renamed because there was already a place named Lovely Banks in west Geelong. Simpson is a town in the Western District of Victoria Australia. The town is in a dairying region and lies about halfway between Colac and the coastal fishing resort of Port Campbell. Most of the town is located in the Corangamite Shire, but a small, forested section lies in the Shire of Colac Otway. Simpson is south of Cobden. At the , Simpson had a population of 569. Hampton is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Bayside local government area.
