Les Logan
Leslie Arthur Logan AM (28 January 1908 – 15 December 2000) was an Australian politician who was a Country Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1947 to 1974. He served as a minister in the government of Sir David Brand. Logan was born in Geraldton, Western Australia, to Laura (née Eaton) and Alan Logan. He was raised on a small farm near Northampton, and after leaving school worked for a few years in Geraldton before returning to take over the farm. He was prominent in local agricultural circles, and also served on the Northampton Road Board from 1940 to 1945. Logan entered parliament at a 1947 Legislative Council by-election for Central Province, caused by the resignation of Edmund Hall. He was re-elected in 1948, and following a redistribution in 1950 was appointed to the new Midland Province, which covered the same area. Roger Keith Nicholls (born 22 April 1956) is a former Australian politician. The Liberal Party of Australia (Western Australian Division), branded as Liberal Western Australia, is the division of the Liberal Party of Australia in Western Australia. Founded in March 1949 as the Liberal and Country League of Western Australia (LCL), it simplified its name to the Liberal Party in 1968. There was a previous Western Australian division of the Liberal Party when the Liberal Party was formed in 1945, but it ceased to exist and merged into the LCL in May 1949. The Liberal Party has held power in Western Australia for five separate periods in coalition with the National Party (previously the Country party), with the longest period between 1959 and 1971. 1959 Western Australian State Election
Elections were held in the state of Western Australia on 21 March 1959 to elect all 50 members to the Legislative Assembly. Whip (politics)
A whip is an official of a political party whose task is to ensure party discipline in a legislature. This means ensuring that members of the party vote according to the party platform, rather than according to their own individual ideology or the will of their donors or constituents. Whips are the party's "enforcers". They try to ensure that their fellow political party legislators attend voting sessions and vote according to their party's official policy. Members who vote against party policy may "lose the whip", being effectively expelled from the party. The term is taken from the " whipper-in" during a hunt, who tries to prevent hounds from wandering away from a hunting pack. Additionally, the term "whip" may mean the voting instructions issued to legislators, or the status of a certain legislator in their party's parliamentary grouping. Northampton, Western Australia
Northampton is a town north of Geraldton, in the Mid West region of Western Australia. At the 2011 census, the town had a population of 868.The town contains a National Trust building. The town lies on the North West Coastal Highway. Originally called The Mines, Northampton was gazetted in 1864 and named after the colony's Governor, John Hampton. The town was sited in the Nokanena Brook valley, between the hamlets around the two major copper mines in the area, the Wanerenooka and the Gwalla. It was the service town to the micronation, the Principality of Hutt River. The town is known for its many wildflowers. Cave paintings at the Bowes River turnoff show that the region has been inhabited by Indigenous Australians. The surrounding areas produce wheat and other cereal crops. The town has a receival site for Cooperative Bulk Handling.
