Leslie "Les" Francis (born 25 May 1956) is a former South African professional darts player who used to play in the Professional Darts Corporation events. Career Born in Gauteng, Francis competed in the singles tournament of the 2005 WDF World Cup where he lost to Markus Korhonen in the first round. Francis competed in the 2008 and 2009 South African Masters. He didn't manage to get through the first round at both editions, he lost to James Wade and Mervyn King respectively. Later in 2009, he threw a nine-darter. Gauteng
Gauteng ( ) is one of the nine provinces of South Africa. The name in Sotho-Tswana languages means 'place of gold'. Mervyn King (darts Player)
Mervyn King (born 15 March 1966) is an English professional darts player who plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) tournaments. Nicknamed The King, he has reached seven PDC major TV finals and reached a peak of No. 4 in the PDC Order of Merit. Early life King first took up the game at the age of 12, playing with an old rolled-cardboard dartboard given to him by his father. His father insisted that he played darts using competition distance and height. By the age of 13, he had ambitions to become a professional player as he was playing county darts at Superleague level. Aodhagan O'Neill
Aodhagan Bernard O'Neill (born 28 October 1959) is an Irish former professional darts player who played in events of the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). Career O'Neill won the 2009 Tom Kirby Memorial Irish Matchplay beating Jason Cullen, Benny Grace and William O'Connor, earning him a place in the 2010 PDC World Darts Championship. He later reached the quarter-finals of the Gleneagle Irish Masters, beating Terry Jenkins, Nick Fullwell, and Andy Jenkins before losing 5-2 to Brendan Dolan. O'Neill defeated South Africa's Les Francis in the preliminary round, but lost 3-0 to Adrian Lewis in the first round. He quit the PDC in 2012. Devon Petersen (born 4 June 1986) is a South African professional darts player and a pundit for Sky Sports. He has qualified for the PDC World Championship on seven occasions with his best result coming in 2014, 2019 and 2021 when he reached the last 16. A nine-dart finish, also known as a nine-darter, is a perfect leg or single game in the sport of darts. The object of the game is to score a set number of points, most commonly 501; in order to win, a player must reach the target total exactly and hit a double scoring area with their last dart. When the target is 501, the minimum number of darts needed to reach it is nine. For example, one way to achieve a nine-dart finish is to score 60 (triple 20) on each of the first seven throws, then a 57 (triple 19) on the eighth, and lastly a 24 (double 12) on the ninth. It is regarded as an extremely difficult feat to achieve even for the sport's top players, and is considered the highest single-game achievement in the sport, similar to a maximum 147 break in snooker or a 300-point game in bowling. James Wade
James Martin Wade (born 6 April 1983) is an English professional darts player, currently playing in the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). He became the youngest player to win a major PDC title, when he won the 2007 World Matchplay at the age of 24. This record has since been broken by Michael van Gerwen. The Emperors Palace South African Masters was a darts tournament organised by the Professional Darts Corporation which began in 2007, so-named because it took place at the Emperors Palace entertainment resort in Johannesburg, South Africa. Stefan Vermaak is the current champions on 2022 South African Darts Masters he defeats Charles Losper by 9–8 (legs).
