Les Bordes, Loiret
Les Bordes () is a commune in the Loiret department in north-central France. It is the site of Les Bordes golf course, ranked the number one golf course in Europe and in the top 10 courses in the world. Population Golf course Originally conceived by Baron Marcel Bich of Bic pens and razors fame, the Les Bordes golf course is built on what was previously his hunting estate. The Les Bordes golf course was the first course designed and built in France by Robert von Hagge. The Les Bordes Estate was taken over by an affiliate of RoundShield Partners in 2018. Since then, a fully private golf club with an international membership has been established. Six Senses Hotels also recently announced the projected opening of a luxury hotel (completely separate from the golf club) on the estate in 2022. Marcel Bich, Baron Bich (; 29 July 1914 – 30 May 1994) was an Italian-French manufacturer and co-founder of Bic, the world's leading producer of ballpoint pens, lighters and razors. Early years He was born in Turin, Italy, on 29 July 1914 to Aimé-Mario Bich (1882–1955) and Marie Muffat de Saint-Amour de Chanaz (1886–1967). His family moved to Spain and then to France where he was naturalised as a French citizen in 1932 and later studied law at the University of Paris. He served in the French Air Force at the outset of World War II. The Bich family originated at Châtillon, and earlier in the Valtournenche valley, in the Aosta Valley. King Charles Albert of Sardinia granted Emmanuel Bich, mayor of Aosta, the title of baron in 1841. Société Bic S.A., commonly called Bic and stylized as BiC, is a French manufacturing corporation based in Clichy, Hauts-de-Seine. It was founded in 1945 by French aristocrat Marcel Bich and produces specifically disposable items; namely pens, stationery, lighters, and shaving razors. Gil Hanse
Gilbert Hanse (born August 12, 1963) is an American golf course designer. Hanse, along with his business partner Jim Wagner, was selected to design the Rio 2016 Olympic Golf Course, the first Olympic venue to host golf since 1904. Education Hanse attended secondary school at Hunter Tannersville High School in Tannersville, New York. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Denver and his master's in landscape architecture from Cornell University in 1989. Hanse was the recipient of the William Frederick Dreer Award, which allowed him to spend a year in Great Britain studying the history of golf architecture.
